Supposedly: Tools, Preferences, General, choose "close button minimizes to tray" However, although I have this option selected (along with minimize at startup) it isn't working. This doesn't concern me greatly, since I doubt I'm going to be sticking with it.
Minimize to tray works only in conjunction with launch pad.
Why do you intend to abandon i-vault? Have you found security problems? If so, what?
It works fine for me more or less. For some sites autologin works, and for others it doesn't or isn't convenient because of the structure of the site, in which case I have to click one button to enter. Only in very rare instances do I have to use Quick Password to enter data. The user name and password are usually entered without problem, which is what I really wanted from the program.
I am bothered by the difficulty in creating new cards since I upgraded to IE7. The automatic card creation (hidden setting) no longer seems to work and I have to use Interactive which is a bother.

r2baruch,
Since upgrading to IE7, have you perhaps reinstalled iV? The .civ file will remain the same, but that might resolve the integration issue. I've used with IE7, but have re-installed iV since IE7 came to the machine.

"Why do you intend to abandon i-vault? Have you found security problems? If so, what?"
After considerable time on the forums & effort to make it work, it doesn't do what I need the way I want to do it. Other sw packages do.
1. My primary browser is firefox. iVault cuts & pastes securely, but I can't resize it, so it's cludgy to use, as well as less convenient than sw that integrates with firefox.
2. It does auto-logon in ie, But has a problem using parameters to login...
3. Have tried again & again to create cards & then auto-logon with them, but it doesn't work for me at all. When it comes to confidential info, I don't want to enter info unencrypted into the browser to set up autologon. I want it transmitted securely in encrypted form. I can't do that.
4. Quick Passwords has not worked for me. ever.
It's still on my system, but I can't waste more time on this version. It doesn't do what i need. Maybe I'll upgrade to a future version if it adds the functionality I need.
For now, I'm happy with BoClean & Verification Engine - in both cases my time & effort on the forums & adjusting settings paid off & they do what they're supposed to for me. Last night I installed CFP 3 - so far it's smooth sailing. It's a top-notch firewall/ hips & I will benefit more from addressing the learning curve I face to master it than spinning my wheels with iVault.

3. Create a shortcut to start ivault as needed.
Go to yourdirectorypath/comodo/ivault/.
right click on ivault.exe, choose Create a shortcut. (ivault.lnk) I placed it in my quicklaunch, but it could go on your desktop or be pinned to start as well. Your preference.
I finally figured out how to run i-Vault w/o Launch Pad. It simply requires two command clicks (either on a shortcut or on i-vault.exe). The first click starts the process. The second click opens the GUI. If i-vault.exe or a shortcut is placed in the startup folder to start the process, then a single click will open the GUI.
Without launchpad running in the background my computer seems to be running a lot faster and smoother than before. It is now easy to open IV when i need it. However, I would still like to see a tray icon for IV when the process is running w/o GUI open.

Thanks for the PM, harringtone. Sorry no one has responded. My suggestion would be uninstall and reinstall. Make sure you have a current/up-to-date copy of your .civ file.
It could be related to the fact that you've upgraded browsers since initially installing. When you uninstall and reinstall, make sure you turn off/disable any active security applications (AV, antispyware, HIPS, etc). Reboot in between. Check msconfig to make sure there's not an autostart entry remaining active for iVault before reinstalling.
How do I uninstall? None of the uninstallers (Z-Soft, Revo) seem to remove the program. Does it even require uninstalling, or just deleting the folders and files? What about the registry? Unlocker doesn't report any locks. Revo didn't seem to complete the uninstall and showed a whole bunch of registry entries. Zsoft said it was uninstalled, but the files were still there and I could still open the program and GUI.
Thanks.

I'm not using iV at the moment (I use a portable app that will launch FF and works in Linux), so this is from memory... I'm not sure if there's a valid Add/Remove Programs entry, since it is installed through LaunchPad integration; I don't think it's even listed in Start/All Programs...
You probably need to get rid of LaunchPad as has been discussed previously. Then use Zsoft (or msicuu2) to remove the installation entry, if iV can't be uninstalled "officially." Delete any remaining folders in Program Files, and run ccleaner (or similar) to remove any leftover registry entries. Reboot, and you should be good to go.
BTW, there's also a good free tool by sysinternals, called PageDefrag. If you run this, you can set the option for it to defrag your pagefile and registry hives on reboot. It takes a few seconds, but will help speed up your machine, especially after you've edited the registry.
Hope that helps,
LM

I have previously removed LaunchPad. I-Vault appears in Windows Add/Remove as well as in Zsoft and Revo file lists, but none of them seem to do anything. if I understand you correctly, you are saying I should just delete the files/folders and then clean the registry. Just to prevent me from doing anything stupid, please confirm that that is what you meant.
Then I can reinstall from a fresh download, again get rid of LaunchPad, and i-Vault should should integrate correctly in IE7, I hope. Correct?
Thx.

Correct. If trying to run an uninstall routine does nothing, your only option is to manually remove program folders, etc. iV doesn't have a service or autostart entry that I recall, so it should be easy to delete the program file for it. Zsoft has an option to remove the program entry, which I would suggest as well (or you can use msicuu2 for that purpose as well).
Once the files are gone, clean the registry, reboot, and you should be set to reinstall fresh. The reboot is necessary after cleaning the registry up.

The reinstall didn't work. I a got an error message: "Error 1719: The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed.
This can occur if you are running Windows in safe
mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly
installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance."
I tried fixing it according to
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315353/en-us
, but that didn't help either.
I restored the deleted registry components and the deleted i-vault files and it runs as before except that now it doen's interact at all with IE7. i.e doesn't even enter the loginin details into the web pages and I have to copy paste each one..
Therefore it seems that I really do need to reinstall to get proper functioning in IE7.
If you have any ideas, I am all ears (eyes).
Thx

Good. I will give it a try. I think I saw something like it in one of the MS KB or forum articles but didn't quite understand it. This is much clearer. I will let you know what happens.
Many thanks.

Yeah, MS KB articles can be rather confusing at times... I always try to find something that's a little easier to deal with.

Hi Little Mac,
It didn't work. I did exctly what it said in the instructions you sent. Then I got the rror message 1607- Unable to install Installshield Scripting Run Time. Since I know I am going to have some programs to install in the next few days. it is getting urgent that I solve this problem.
Do you have any more ideas.

If you go to the InstallShield website and find their Support section for older InstallShield stuff (not their current product offerings) - you may have to Google it up, but it does exist - they will have instructions about identifying which exact installer the application is using, and instructions on how to resolve the issue.
Here's what I've experiened/learned in the past. There are a large number of different InstallShield engines used for MS Installer packages (different releases or versions), and unless you have the correct one installed on your machine (you may not), you have various issues and error messages.
LM
PS: Here's a link to one such InstallShield site.
http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=q108464
It's the "consumer." at the front that's key...

Thanks. I will look into it. The only problem is what will happen with installation of other programs?
