I once got loads of pop-ups installing something because of a mistake I made in configuration. I have a group rule in defence+ to allow all programs under c:\windows \nd c:\program files to run all DLLs under c:\windows and c:\program files. One time I accidentally put the applications group in this rule in stead of the the DLL group.

The main installation program ran with no pop-ups (probably signed). It ran multiple (many) other programs and was allowed to do so without a pop-up. However, each of the child installation programs gave a pop-up and I had loads of pop-ups to answer. This was not nice.

This does not happen with my correct configuration.

This was running in clean PC mode.

Conclusion: Do not add a rule to allow all applications to run all applications.

Could something similar happen if all the sub programs were signed? They would be safe so would be run with no pop-up. Safe programs can do most but not all things so could this give multiple pop-ups?

v941726, I'm with you on the paranoia thing. Most home-users take security too far for what is required to be safe, and their paranoia is gleefully exploited and encouraged by commercial vendors of security software. For most home-users a simple, two-way firewall and a free av/spyware program is all they need to be safe. Comodo Antivirus is a good choice in that respect, but Comodo Firewall is anything but simple unfortunately. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of non-techy, would-be users are put off by it's sophistication.
Just as well the excellent antivirus component can be installed without the firewall.

I honestly think the firewall side of it is becoming just too sophisticated for it's own good. Can't argue with the value for money (free!) but it's becoming the reserve of firewall geeks and others who fully understand what does what.
