Has anyone encountered this problem with CIS, or am I the only lucky one?

I really like CIS. It's a smooth program. However, I found out that when I first installed it about 30-35 days ago the Windows Explorer right-click context menu "scan with Comodo AV" stopped working about 10 days later. So I came here for advice, got it (was to do a complete re-install), did it. Then I noticed a screen after this install that I didn't have before. Then I noticed another one, and decided to do a complete uninstall with a mid-year 2008 quality uninstaller, or
so I thought I uninstalled it
. I rebooted, like many years of experience has taught me, unloaded everything I could from memory/taskbar -- BTW, my system is Vista Home Premium, which, if I could reach Willie Gates, I'd give him the severest mechanically-induced asthma attack known to mankind for being so presumputous as to foist on me and others I know an OS that "he thinks" is "best" for me and then has the gall to charge me for it...! It would be different if he gave it to me.
However, I digress. Back to my problem. When I tried to do a clean install again of the exact last install of CIS, the one I thought I had completely uninstalled, I got a message saying it - CIS -was running, AND --> BLIP, that's it, no further attempt at an install, hint of an install, nothing...!!! -- even though there was no directory (yes, I started in the early days of DOS 1). So, I d/l'ed XYplorer because of it's great search feature, fired it up and found about 1,000 entries for Comodo. I "nuked" 'em all, ran a registry cleaner, for about 5th or 6th time throughout this ordeal, feeling confident the problem was finally resolved. Re-booted -- cleaned system, right-clicked on CIS to run as administrator, ... watched..., then got up, went to my bedroom returning with my 12 ga. semiautomatic loaded with 5 rounds of #4 Buck shot, which is now leaning against what might be in the near future a rather expensive pile of 1's and 0's.
I did install BitDefender so I could get on the 'Net tonight to ask for some help here without runnin' barefoot, JIC (Just In Case) CIS wasn't really running, leaving me open to malware attack.
So, in view of the above, short of the 12 ga., does anyone have any ideas as to how I can get a full install of CIS on my computer before I render it a trotline sinker?
At this point I'm open to anything - smoke signals, rain dances, stickin' pins in dolls, SHOOT...! I'll even kick my Lab puppy if I thought it might do some good.
Lookin' for answers and desperate in The Republic of Texas.

Hi Jacob,
Well, sometimes I tend to forget where I am and slip into "eloquent debate" mode, especially on certain issues and topics, Vista and Gates taking 2 of the top 5 slots...! <VBG> I oughta' work harder on my self-control...! <chucklin'>
>Just uninstall CIS(In Safe Mode) Then Run Comodo's Registry Cleaner.. in Regular Mode,
Why didn't I think of that?? So simple -- so reasonable. Out of all my years of using Windows, starting with Win 3.1 then Win 95 thru now <and I got one of the first copies of Win 95, 'cause I was president of our local PC Club then, and I coordinated my demonstration of Win 95 to the club and the public, with their public release> anyway, I've never had the need to uninstall a program in Safe Mode -- never even thought of it. Jacob, you have educated me. Thank you.
>Then install CIS Once again.
Will do.
>I've sent you a PM
Ok, however, I'm not quite up to speed on my forum "shorthand" yet, so I need another bit of education -- what's a PM, and where should I look for it <unless it's self-explanatory>?
It might be a couple of days before I can get back on since as of last weekend Vista has decided to start dialing out for my Internet connection. This would normally be fine, except I've been on high-speed cable since Win 98, before 98SE. The only reason I haven't ditched Vista for my XP Pro is because my best friend is a beta test for 8 or 9 Microsoft products, and out of respect for him I've kept Vista. Anyway, this dialing out problem has caused me a lot headaches, and I was lucky to get out this time.
Jacob, thanks a million for the help. I really appreciate the info. I'll be back on the forum as soon as I can.
Take care.

G'day Rick1,

This is usually an indicator of malware. In XP this can be stopped, temporarily, by enabling "Never dial a connection" under TOOLS -> INTERNET OPTIONS -> CONNECTIONS. How it's done in Vista would be similar but may not be exactly the same (sorry, but I don't run Vista - it makes me feel dirty
).
Once you have reinstalled CIS, please ensure that you have downloaded the latest antivirus updates and run a complete scan ASAP.
A PM is a Personal Mesage, which one forum user can send to another forum user. At the top of every page is a section called "User Info". this contains a link to your PMs. Clicking this link will take you to the INBOX. From here, it's sorta like email - just read a message, write a message and reply to a message.
Hope this helps,
Ewen :-)

>G'day Rick1,
Hi Ewen,
Top of the day to you. With a greeting like that, you've gotta' be from "down under." My Family Doc just got back from a 3 week vacation from there and he said it was FANTASTIC...!!! Absolutely marvelous. This comes from a true globe trotter, and Australia was the only place he and his family had not been.
Now my idea of a vacation is in the heart of the Colorado Rockies in the dead of winter, on the top of one of the ski mountains, on a crystal clear day - where you can see forever. They like my style so much I've been an instructor for a while, and have left me an open door for further advancement as soon as I master the art of coming down the mountain on my skis.
>This is usually an indicator of malware.
Yea, I know, and I've long ago declared Vista as the most expensive malware I've seen under the guise of legit software designed to make Gates laugh all the way to the bank each day.
> In XP this can be stopped, temporarily, by enabling "Never dial a >connection" under TOOLS -> INTERNET OPTIONS -> CONNECTIONS. How it's done in Vista would be similar but >may not be exactly the same
I just found it in Control Panel->Internet Options->Connections tab and selected "Never dial a connection." We'll see if that solves the problem.
> (sorry, but I don't run Vista - it makes me feel dirty

<chucklin'> Yea, I know the feelin'. Here in the U.S., it's about like tryin' to say "Internal Revenue Servi...
... Sorry 'bout that. It's the "gag & puke" reflex. I can't even type it without it happenin'...! But I know what you mean about feelin' dirty all over about something, Ewen. Believe me, if it weren't for Ira, I would have have pulled the plug on Vista a long time ago, 'cause I dearly love XP. I've even considered installing XP in Vista and going on my merry way using XP to run all my programs, since I have 8 gigs of memory, however I know I would still have to still deal with the underlying OS of Vista.
>Once you have reinstalled CIS, please ensure that you have downloaded the latest antivirus updates and run a >complete scan ASAP.
Yes, I'll head over to the site in a few minutes and pick up the latest version/download. I don't think I ever would have thought of something so simple as uninstalling a program in Safe mode. I've got to tell Ira about that. For 14 or 15 years now, he has had a live call-in Q & A radio program regarding anything about computers, software, the Internet, etc. on our largest (50K watt, I believe) radio station in the area, and I don't recall him ever mentioning it. I know I'll pass it along at the next club meeting.
>A PM is a Personal Message, ...
Well, I was about 99.5% sure that was the meaning, it was that .5% naggin' in the back of my mind that had me just a tad bit "unease," so I thought I had better ask rather that "assume."
>Hope this helps,
>Ewen :-)
You have, and I appreciate your time, trouble, and patience with me, Ewen. Even though I've been tinkerin' with computers since the early 80's, on the Net since the since '92, I'm just now getting into forums. So, I'm a bit "behind the curve" on the forum "shorthand" in that respect, however, I tend to learn quickly.
Take care, Ewen.
Thanks a bunch for the help. I hope that Connections tab trick works. We'll soon find out.
Hope you have a great day.

Hi Ewen,
Well, the trick of Control Panel->Internet Options->Connections tab and selected "Never dial a connection," similar to your XP worked in Vista. No more attempts to dial out.
However, my original problem of totally uninstalling Comodo (CIS), even in Safe Mode, is still with me. I can't figure it out. There is no directory for Comodo. I've swept the registry. I've used a shell that shows all hidden files, and can search for and list any file name to find all references for Comodo and nuked 'em, and then checked again, just to make sure. Re-booted and tried to install CIS, and the same thing always happens -- a message telling me that Comodo is already running, do I want to add to it or do I want to uninstall it. No matter which I choose, the little screen simply goes away, and nothing happens.
I don't know what I'm going to do next, but I have the feeli' I'm about to head back to my bedroom and take my 12ga. off the rack, bring it back up here, and just lean it against this one-eyed critter, then I'm gonna' go watch a little TV and think for a while.
Take care, Ewen. Hope you are having a nice weekend "down under." A cold front has just dropped the temperature here about 15-20 degrees in the last 2 hours, so I might crank up the fireplace for the evening.

I've ran into this situation, after you remove comodo, download and run Eusing Registry Cleaner (no offense against Comodo). After you run Eusing, go a head and run Disk Clean-up or CCleaner and clean up all the temporary files that you have. Re-download Comodo (be sure its the correct version (32-bit for 32-bit OS, 64-bit for 64-bit OS), cause I"ve ran the 32-bit on 64-bit and ran into that issue) and try it again. Let us know if that works.
To tell what version: click the blue orb, right click on Computer>Properties, and it will tell you 32-bit or 64-bit. This can also happen with a corrupt download. After you download and install Comodo again, run the Update in the Misc. menu. Restart and try it again.
