Thanks umesh.
I will get back to her computer as soon as I can. Hopefully by the weekend but I can't promise.
But I will do it ASAP.

Ok umesh I managed to get her computer back long enough to try this build.
Same problem I'm afraid, here's the screenshots of the messages at the end.
1.
2.
3.
There was a 4th that was just too fast for me to capture.
That consisted of the green progress bar in reverse and the text just said "rolling back" I think.
No other message or report.

Well guys, I have some lukewarm news.
Coming back to this thread after being slammed for the past few weeks, I downloaded three things on the same problematic laptop as before:
1) CIS_Setup_3.10.102363.531_XP_Vista_x32.exe - latest stable build of CIS
2) CVA_Setup_1.1.5.52_XP_Vista_x32_BETA.exe - beta build of CVA mentioned in this thread
3) CIS_Setup_TestVersion_XP_Vista_x32.rar - test build of CIS also from this thread
After creating a System Restore point and copying my current CIS directory in case my mangled-together installation goes hairy, I tried installer No. 1 above to double check that the 'rollback' situation is still active. Guess what? It installed without a hitch, all the way through. First thought came to mind... "the devs fixed it" which is great.
Before rebooting, I then wanted to make sure that the new installer was indeed fixed by going to installer No. 2 above of CVA, the exact same build which gave me the 'rollback' situation as well. That installed without any problems either. It appears whatever was screwed up on this laptop, whether it be registry, file, or some other configuration conflict, is now gone. The only notable change I can remember making on here is a WiFi driver update.
I now went ahead and rebooted. The new CIS 3.10 had wiped out my previous configuration. I've decided to wipe the Comodo CIS directory, replace it with the problematic old CIS installation's directory that I backed up before the 3.10 installation, run System Restore and allow it to reboot.
That's when it hit me. CIS's updater had already installed 3.10. Now I feel like an idiot, and this 'testing sample' of a laptop is now compromised. At least everything works, though.
Just for kicks, I installed No. 3 above, the test build, just to see what happens. The installer actually went through smoothly with no special error messages or anything whatsoever.
I should note that the latest stable build of CIS 3.10 not only wiped out my old configuration, but will not allow me to import an old backup from 3.9.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I dislike bumping but is there any update on this ?
If not I'm going to have to install a different firewall on my sis-in-law's computer.

Hello all! This is my first post. Hope this helps ...
Last night I ran into the same rollback problem. I uninstalled my CIS and tried to install the new CIS(CIS_Setup_3.10.102363.531_XP_Vista_x32.exe) but I kept getting the same problem.
I have tried all registry and file cleaning but was unsuccessful. I have also tried selecting different options in the installer and was still unsuccessful.
After hours of pulling my hair, I figured out a workaround ...
1. Download CIS_Setup_3.10.102363.531_XP_Vista_x32.exe
2. Run CIS_Setup_3.10.102363.531_XP_Vista_x32.exe. When you see the "Select the language: prompt/dialog box" ===> "STOP - don't click anything".
3. Now you need to edit a file called "Script.ini" . Open the file ""C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Local Settings\Temp\Script.ini" in notepad.
4. Delete the following line in the [Shortcut] section ...
shortcut3=-1,,cfp.exe,,25,,COMODO Internet Security,Desktop.ico
5. Save the file and close notepad.
6. Continue with the installation.
My install worked flawlessly after that, except (of course) a desktop icon was not created.
Good luck!

Finally we have a success thanks to madproton.
Now if the developers can fix this somehow before the next version arrives, it would save having to go through the hoops to get it installed.
Thank you madproton.

Seem like it has something to do with write permissions...
What was the OS again on that system ?

I assume you can create the shortcut manually on the desktop ?

Never tried to be honest as I just delete any desktop shortcuts anyway.
So not having one created was no big loss to me.
<quick edit> Nothing else I have installed seems to have trouble creating shortcuts on the desktop.

Hi all,
I realise this topic is very old but feel a reply is worthy as I had this issue.
After reading through the thread I got a couple of clues and realised I didn't have a 'Desktop' folder in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users
I created this and the install worked perfectly. If you have have the folder but still get the error then check the NTFS permissions. Of course there is always the script file edit posted previously to fall back on.
Cheers
Simon
