Hi guys. I created this topic for sharing among the comodo family the existance of other free usefull programs. These programs can be anything worth mentioning but remember that must be free.

Just one simple rule: "No shareware/adware or paid applications will be accepted. Only free programs, not necessary opensource, which not violate copyright laws."

If you happen to know any please post it here, providing a small description and a link to the site.

The "Collection" is located here:  http://forums.comodo.com/index.php/topic,1731.0.html

Miranda IM -- Cross-platform client to connect to MSN/AIM/ICQ/IRC/YIM/Jabber, etc.

GAIM -- Same purpose as Miranda IM but different.

BitWise IM -- Free IM program with free 128bit Blowfish encryption and direct connection (Your messages and files move from PC to PC without going through any server, while being encryped). Very safe and great!

Spyware Terminator + ClamWin Antivirus -- They work together as HIPS and spyware/virus cleaner. Smiley

Camouflage -- Program to compress files. The fun part is: It can, for example, make a .JPG image file with hidden content inside it, that can only be un-compressed with this same software. Wink

I have hundreds of other cool programs, I'll post more later. Smiley

No-IP -- Program to forward your IP through a DNS name of your choice. For example: BHTS.No-IP.Info

ATH.CX -- Same as No-IP but looks like: BHTS.ath.cx

foobar2000 -- A music-player software. You can forget about Winamp or Windows Media Player, foobar2000 is all you need. Wink

Audacity -- Program to edit audio files. You cna cut, delete, add, mix, whatever you wish to an audio file.

Free Download Manager -- Pretty much like Flashget, Getright and Download Accelerator Plus, except it's free, comes without any kind of adware and has an option to download sites fully and easily. Smiley

I'll post more later. Cheesy

Some Microsoft Utilities

Microsoft Virtual pc 2004
Virtual PC is a powerful software virtualization solution that allows you to run multiple PC-based operating systems simultaneously on one workstation, providing a safety net to maintain compatibility with legacy applications while you migrate to a new operating system.

Shared Computer Toolkit
Similar with Goback, DeepFreeze, Firstdefence and RestoreIt.
Unauthorized changes to a hard disk can make shared computers less reliable. Windows Disk Protection helps to prevent users, viruses, spyware, or other programs from making permanent changes to the hard disk by clearing changes each time the computer restarts.
Because certain changes, such as critical updates and antivirus signatures, need to be permanently saved, Windows Disk Protection allows you to schedule such changes to occur automatically at whatever time you choose.
(It is not Compatible with XP Media Center Edition 2005)

PowerToys for XP
A collection of tools that provide fun and functionality to your computer running Windows XP.

others will come later Grin

Here is some programs that I use:

7-Zip and ZipGenius

Two top of the line Zip Utilities. For people who love to have a nicer interface, I suggest that you go for ZipGenius.

Process Explorer
A nifty program to check what is going on on your computer. It analyses current running processes and offer you a way to terminate them. Recommended for diagnostics.

Firefox
A great alternative Internet browser to Internet Explorer. I believe no further explanation is required.

winmd5sum
A utility that calculates the MD5 sum of a file. MD5 sum of a file is like a thumbprint of the file. If you don't know what a MD5 sum is, you won't need this program anyway. However, if you are curious, just start a thread and I will reply.

K-Lite Mega Codec Pack
This is the ONLY program that you will need to watch movies in your PC. Seriously, it support so many files that I have only heard of 10% of the files that it support.

Yours truly,

Well, here's a list for you Pandlouk,  Cool

This is software that I use\have used, and is still free to my knowledge and has had no spyware to my knowledge, else I wouldn't use it....enjoy.

http://www.ccleaner.com/download/

<Ccleaner works great cleaning files etc...and yes you can customize which cookies to clean or not, back up the registry before cleaning it, etc...>

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

<This video player is great and use it myself, you can catch streams from your movies, etc...plays music and other media types as well, streaming network also>

http://www.gimp.org/

<What can I say for the Gimp, it's awesome and I have found some excellent plugins as well, no need for photoshop but get used to the Gimp interface, it can be tough for some but once you do, it's easy.>

http://wwwa.accuweather.com/adcbin/desktop2/signup.asp

<I like having accuweather desktop, it gives me what I want, (the weather). It's not as beefed up as weather.com but that's what makes it nice. You are somewhat limited with the free version and has adds running on the side but I have never had spyware from it whatsoever.I love the alerts and streaming weather map. Also, doesn't take up resources.>

http://www.abisource.com/

< I like ABIword more than open office. The interface is easier and you can do whatever you need to do with it. Not that OO isn't ok, but it's too much in my opinion. Abiword works great and does what I need it to do.>

http://www.mythicsoft.com/agentransack/

<I have used Agent ransack to browse for those tough files for a long time now and it's the fastest and most thorough seeker in my opinion.>

http://www.oehelp.com/OEBackup/Default.aspx

<I don't know how I stumbled across this Outlook express backup full, one but i did and I am glad I did because you click a restore button and all identities are there, that's it. Easy backup easy restore.>

http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

<I have always use spyware blaster and is a good deterent on spyware, takes no resources, excellent.>

http://www.quinnware.com/

<The fastest ripper, converter out there. I love it and it's the only one I use. Most stable I believe too.>

http://www.mp3mymp3.com/

<This will catch any sound on your computer\network\internet, easy to use, excellent>

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=92755126-a008-49b3-b3f4-6f33852af9c1&DisplayLang=en

<Pstory is excellent for making quick picture slides\effects\sounds, easy to use, etc...MS did one thing right.>

http://www.faststone.org/

<I have grown to love this image viewer\organizer\ and file renamer\batch conversion\ text editor, excellent>

http://www.xnview.com/

<Xnview is another like fastone but perhaps more basic, still does what you need and is really good>

http://reviews.speedbit.com/DapReview/XuMouse.exe/

<This is the only place I found to get XUmouse and is an older prog. It clicks for you. If you play games that you want to keep clicking on a button and not be there for it, this is great.>

http://www.sodabush.com/products/windowpaperxp/index.php

<I love changing my backgrounds in the folders themselves, this will do it and is easy to use,>

http://www.fookes.com/ezthumbs/

<EZthumbs is excellent for making thumbnails>

http://www.ntu.edu.sg/CITS/SoftwareDirectory/Utilities/Screen.htm

<Screenprint.exe is excellent for taking screen shots, I use this all the time.>

http://www.download.com/CDBurnerXP-Pro/3000-2646_4-10409086.html

<CdburnerXP pro is an excellent CD\DVD\Audio disk burner\iso\bootable. It works great, fast, reliable.>

http://www.ht-fireman.com/

<HT fireman is another burner and does what CDburnerXP pro does but the interface isn't as easy. But it is solid working.>

http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html

<If you want info on your system, Everest FREE edition will do it. It will tell you everything on your pc, temps, etc...but is no longer supported so you have to go elsewhere to find it, Major Geeks has it as linked above.>

 http://www.download.com/IrfanView/3000-2192_4-10491149.html?tag=pop

<IrfanView may be another you want to look into. It has batch conversion among a hundred other things, image viewer, video, etc...I don't care for the interface but it is a very good program>

 http://www.cole2k.net/

<This has a pack of DVD utilities, DVD shrink 1-3, image burn, etc...and for backing up your LEGALLY OWNED movies , it's excellent.>(just to note, I do not support piracy in any way, so get a job and buy it)  Wink

http://www.vvcool.com/animator9/

<You want a free animated GiF maker? This is great! Look at my avatar, this is what put it together, I made the files with Gimp, and used animator9 to stitch it all. It has stitch control, etc...awesome program, easy to use>

 http://www.faststone.org/

<I want to add that fastone has a free image capture as well and in fact captures video windows as well as still images, very nice. They also have Maxview for opening multiple pic windows and simply to view the picture, it's ok. >

 Cheers,

Paul  Wave

Oh, did I fail to mention, Zone Alarm, AVG ? Yup, I guess I did, oh well, lolll. not worth the link time.  Cheesy Wink

Graphics / Presentation related

Wink
Wink 2.0 is a simple to use screen capture utility that outputs in SWF format. The CPF rules creation tutorial at www.embsolutions.com.au/cpf_rule/index.htm was created with Wink 2.0.

Photo Filtre
Freeware version is exceptionally quick, easy to follow, nice UI and extensible. Don't download Photo Filtre STUDIO, as it is not freeware, but costs only 25 Euros.

Network Related

The Dude
Brilliant freeware LAN mapper and discovery tool. None better!

Internet related

Fresh FTP
Neat, easy to use, resumable FTP client.

Security related

HiJack This
Indispensible - startup, auto execute, BHO, services monitoring tool

IttyBitty Process Manager
Single file executable, run from USB, totally independant of Task Manager and policies

Ice Sword - rootkit detector
Hard to find - Chinese authored, but bloody good suite of detection utilities

Pocket Killbox
Pocket KillBox is a program that can be used to get rid of files that stubbornly refuse to allow you to delete them.

See you all later - I'm off to drown in beer 'n' bourbon.  Wink

Anything & everything from SysInternals (Process Explorer is one that has already been mentioned).

But, you'll need to hurry.. Microsoft recently acquired SysInternals & they may not keep the site up much longer.
