I have been looking for a way to get my DLink router to reconnect to my ISP from time to time so as to change the ISP assigned IP address.  I look upon doing this as a security move.  Make oneself a moving target as opposed to sitting there at the same address for days on end just inviting someone to try and break in.  Is there any merit in this idea?  I'd pay a fee for that ability!

how do u know you are not inhereting an IP that is under attack for whatever reason, or blacklisted?

Not really and not really practical

The best protection is a good firewall with HIPS on your PC,  and fully stealthed external router.  Do a shields up test with the router(Note with router connected you are not testing the PC.)  If you have open ports on the router refer to your router manual or support for info on stealthing ports.

do you have anything like a pretyped text so i could copy and it to my isp? its Mediacom and they are not too bad but there security programs suck that they offer, altho i used AVG for years switched to comodo awhile ago

i wouldnt ask but i am stupid and i dont know what to type to anyone, and getting a big company aware of something good isnt that easy.

I read this thread pretty fast so someone might have offered this idea already.  I had used ZoneAlarm Free firewall for years and several times I offered to donate but they didnt accept.  The same with other free security software.  My suggestion is therefore let people donate via PayPal and you will at least get some donations.  I don't have any idea how much that would be and of course it wouldn't be a regular dependable source.

I used AVG Antivirus free for years and I still like it but AVG had a big sale on AVG Security and so I bought it.  But the truth is I don't like security suites and actually liked the old AVG Antivirus better but since I bought the AVG Security I will use it.  It is too much trouble to get it tuned down to work with the individual security programs that I like.

I had tried Comodo Firewall once before and it was too complicated for me to figure out and ZoneAlarm free had been working fine for me for years so I went back to it.  But I had heard good things about it and so yesterday Comodo scanned my system and installed Comodo Firewall.  I am not sure yet if I will stick with it.  I am going to give it a fair trial period hoping that I can figure it out and only because I have heard so many good things about it...

By the way Comodo thanks very much for the free security software you offer to computer users...

  Personally I think you would benefit by asking for donations to help keep the developement & support going.  I support a lot of freeware/donationware, too many to list here.  I actually prefer it that way instead of shareware or commercial software.  I'm a big supporter of donationcoder.com and have donated three times for the three programs of theirs that I use.  Speaking of which, COMODO could actually join donationcoder.com.
  As a matter of fact, I was looking in the Comodo documentation and website tonight looking for a link for donations, but didn't find anything.  Any software as good as COMODO Firewall deserves donations......

As you know we are committed to provide free desktop security to everyone today, tomorrow and forever!

How can we come up with ideas so that we can get our users to generate revenue for us? (not charging for the desktop security! So don't even go there.. its free forever). For example: we can sell Identity Theft protection service, or maybe people can download the google toolbar with our products so that all the searches they make will get us Pay Per Click engine commision. So we are looking for ideas. the idea is that we would like to spend even more money developing these free products, so if we can come up with a way of free products generating revenue (somehow) we can increase our investment in these free products and everyone benefits as we will deliver even more free products faster :-).

Where and how does the Comodo Firewall store my settings which IP numbers I block?...You must know!
So then without altering your policies about providing a free (and I think excellent) product, you could
generate revenue by selling a script that loads into all our settings which blocks all up to date known
IP`s , know for doing what is called "drive by downloads" of malicious code without any user inter action
phishing sites etc. Keep this list up to date and charge money only for the (what must be a huge) list.
I don`t think there are any modifications necessary to your original software to load and install this
dynamically updated list. That would work better than phishing blocking with a browser, because this
method needs to resolve the name to an IP along with all the rest of the stuff, bogging it down already.
Letting Comodo do this job would not slow down my browsing.....and for a kicker this would be a browser
independent system. Perhaps I start snooping around in the Comodo files on my PC and see how it may be
done...Anyway I would be happy to pay for a regular banned IP updating list which loads with one click
or autoloads when connected to the Comodo Update Service. But I think that any business that has their
employees go on the net would CERTAINLY pay for such a service....while most private PC owners wouldd
still be happy with your firewall and the default settings!

Not sure if it has been suggested before but here's an idea.

First of all make sure Comodo Firewall and it's various products are available to order on a CD, for a reasonably price of 10 euros / 15 dollars, I'm sure this has been suggested before. However, I'd like to suggest a Comodo Security Suite concept, a bootable Linux distribution from which the following things are made easy (i.e. shortcuts on desktop):

- Scanning for Virusses on any hard disk / medium in the computer (Linux has full support for NTFS volumes theses days).
- Making a backup of important files: onto CD, USB, remote FTP another computer or even better, an online backup service from comodo (for 10-25 euro / year).
- When inserted into a Windows Computer: provide easy installation of Comodod Firewall etc.

I'm not running openSUSE 11.0 so don't really need anti virus software, although I'd still use it to scan for virusses in incoming outgoing e-mail attachments and the like. Plus I'd like to recommend it to anyone passing by the helpdesk where I work sometimes.
