I got another nice idea ..
Maybe you can use some kind of merge-Windows-Update system and check installed Updates - and WARN the user if its needed to upgrade windows to close some (unknown?) leaks.
dont lie! anyone knows that many software causes leaks which cannot be closed by a simple software PF.
but theres a hard point over it, the list must be up-to-date and getting updated on any startup, so comodo can merge an actually patchlist and warn about missing updates.
btw, that would be a great "reminder" for any user!
hope you think about it, it would increase the security alot.
greets,
marc

hi !
In my point of vue, "Donate System" is good, but not enough (a lot of people are not used to it).
The Free/Pro version mean the that the PRO version have much more functionnalities, which mean the the Free version doesn't really matter for security
The CPF Interface management seems to be an excellent idea.
http://forums.comodo.com/help/guiflow_help_for_creating_easiest_to_use_central_management_for_cpf-t587.105.html
In fact, product should be free for end-user, but a company can pay for it and for the services associated, like CPF.
I'm really not an expert of security system, but i really think that Comodo Firewall is not mature for other functionnalities like Network printer firewall, Administration Interface, etc...
Otherwise, if Comodo is Free, i can use it as personal, and buy it with services for my company (with advices from Comodo Team, etc...)
Thanks again for this great product,

I've been a member of a freeware site .. even when they started charging "members" fees for "time" membership ... I had to go for "life" ... all their software shown is free - but you gotta pay to "view" their site & the goodies you can get from it ... CFS or Completely Free Software, Australia. They also issue weekly news emails to members, just as you do (or may do) ... I'm too new here to know much about that just now. Christian based group too .. & just recently (as in some months now I guess), they've been putting the Google ads on their pages .. & they claim the revenues are great.
Please, find the owner of that site & talk to him .. been around for years in the freeware world & quite knowledgeable .. in fact he'd probably want to have all your free products on their pages too .. more money for them with the Google ads.
They say revenues have gone into the millions ... hope that's an idea worth considering.

To borrow a page from the GPL model, Many of the GPL'd products offer a paid-for support package around a free software. Probably a bit stiff to get into, as we are talking telephone support, perhaps outside sales type people for business clients.
I would consider a "Donate" page, and encourage distribution (means freely distributable, I can legally stuff it on a CD and install for my clients.) by service techs with the request that they promote your "Donate" page. In fact, a little percentage to the local tech and he could probably run your local paid for support for most things, though with up-line support for when the tech is stumped.

How about offering the big five, free for life on a dvd for xmas gifts. That is to buy if you want to and send to your less savy computer friends. It would make a great gift for friends or family. I like the software so much,I would buy several for gifts at say ten dollars a pop, that way Comodo would not be going back on its promise free forever. Totally up to the individual to support Comodos great work.

Melih,
Individual users
and for a
personal family network
should always be Free!
But in the Corporate and Government environment, the network and the interface(s) outside of each building the security and integrity of work becomes critical. There are several products that are already offered by Comodo that could be enhanced and modified to add additional layers of protection for the "Corporate and Business World".
Educational Institutions in most scenarios should be free for helping to promote Comodo with their students and educational/business partners. But extra security layers are required then arrangements should be made with Comodo for some type of compensation at a rate far below the Full Corporate rate!
The current support is excellent, but when Corporate or Educational environment needs help they need it now. So with the Corporate Support, companies can pay to have their IT personnel trained by Comodo. Combined companies or if the individual company wants to have training on their campus expenses and costs will vary?
Have a free line (800 /888 etc) with set limited amount of direct phone time. Businesses will pay for Up Time!
Also on site, direct help from Comodo Engineers, would be available to those Corporate Entities that paid to participate in
The Comodo Security on Site Support
, would have a Comodo Engineer on their way to the site with in 5 hours.
Distance and available method of travel, would very the arrival time, and once dispatched their would be a minimum fee. Including but not limited to Costs plus expenses.
As I said up time is the most important factor so
costs are insignificant when Security and Integrity are a Premium
for Corporate, Government, and Educational Institutions.

How about just plain old advertising? Or a partnership with other freeware software producers?

I am a new member here but I think I already love your comodo product mostly the firewall. In talking about generating reveneu in order to help developing the free product, I support the idea of having a yearly or every two years membership fee for less dollar and members can have access to the free products that comodo can offer- plus online technical support via the forum.
I am willing to pay the membership because I like the product!

Dear Sir:
Thank you very much for your great product COMODO Pro for both its good functionality and free of charge. To pay a proper amount of money for a great product is reasonable and acceptable, but to make a payment online involves submitting some personal information (not everyone has or wants to have services like Paypal) and take some time to go through the process. These will prevent some people from going further.
So, for people not willing to make a payment, you can let them choose what types of advertisement are acceptable to them. For example, I am one of the people who can accept a small banner showing news/advertisement because I want to know something.
By the way, the “Remember my answer” function seems not always work. It sometimes popup the alerts repeatedly for the same “protected file”. I am using a Chinese version of WinXP.
Thank you very much.

Hello Hello,
(1)
I am thinking that if since we are looking to generate revenue so comodo can add more to their free software, than I am thinking that the end result is a bigger labor pool (more programmers) budget so comodo can release more features and free security software right?
Well, how about going the open-source route? Or maybe a restricted open-source route? By making source code available to the open source community, comodo can leverage open source community programmers as well as internal comodo programmers. The end result achieved! Of course, this method does not generate more revenue to increase one's paycheck---shouldn't matter because comodo business model does not involve generating incoming from security software sales, right?
(2)
Launch a hedging market for security software releases. This means you need to understand that comodo free security software is a common commodity. Then follow the same roads and tribulations as those who succeeded in building the sugar commodity market.
(3) (gray area for white collar crime activity, proceed with caution)
Enlist the experiences of former BOSSES. Hire the one who's smart enough to avoid doing time. Big family connection a plus but not necessary. A desire to inflict rage when deliveries not made a big plus. Establish a subsidiary in Las Vegas for prime visibility and stature. Tell the BOSS to run a betting gig for comodo security softwares and events. Make sure the BOSS understand to deal the bottom line with extreme prejudice. Death by falling meteor for example, circumstantial and accidental. Discrete.
Go Comodo
That's all folks.
psst...check this out, a weird one post this smart and awesome comment in comodo forum at
https://forums.comodo.com/empty-t17670.0.html
psst...don't forget the continued reply from same weird one.
This is my attempt voice support for this "weird one" user's posting. Can you help with your comments?
Happy New Year.

I haven't done an extensive search, so I don't know if this has already been mentioned. My ISP provides free security products from one of your competitors. Their products... well never mind. I can't think of any way to describe them without being horribly derogatory. I would love to see your products offered instead. I would imagine that there is some form of compensation from my ISP.
