Close to 2 years I do use a number of the Comodo free products on my desktop. This DESKTOP is running Windows XP and so far so good. I kicked out all the initial commercial applications initially installed and I am very happy so far.

SO FAR, SO GOOD. 2 weeks back I purchased a brand new HP laptop (dv9860ed) which came preinstalled with Vista. Unlucky me! I should have done more research in advanced and maybe stick to XP and downgrade the laptop. Only after 3 times a clean Vista installation from scratch (spending 4 to 8 hours on it) I do today learn that Firewall Pro (v 3) and / or BOClean (4.27) makes it virtual impossible for my Vista environment to wake up properly from a standby or (deep) sleep mode. In about 90% of the situations the system tries to get back on. But Comodo software makes a mistake and I get a BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH (0x2c, 0x7, 0x110b, ....).

How can I be so certain about my opinion. This afternoon I found similar discussion on the Comodo forums and read a strong advice to disable Comodo software. I did. The result. NO MORE BSOD after 20 times standby/sleep and wakeups! Together with the non availability of the Virusscanner software this makes it for Comodo lovers very difficult to move over to and use Vista.

I love Comodo, please love me and get your apps onto Vista running properly   (R)

Hello,

I've been using CPF, together with BOClean for some months now and I have to say that I am quite happy with it.
First things first - having used many other Firewall/HIPS software I must admit that with CPF I can be as close to applying layered security as it gets.
Once properly configured - CFP doesn't interfere with other security software, it actually makes the whole resident protection being much more than the sum of it's parts. I think that it definitely can be the first weapon of choice for those a little bit more proficient in IT Security. Once you have some knowledge, it can help obtaining as much of a control over what's actually going on as it is possible bearing in mind the architecture of MS operating systems.
Moreover, I really admit the fact that you stand behind your products, offering up-to-date patches and really listening what users have to say.
Last, but not least, Defense+ was a great idea. What's even more important - it has been properly implemented and as far as I can tell - you keep pace with the latest threats by improving D+, so please keep it that way. In the times, where classical firewall and anti-virus are simply thing of the past, it's good to have a software that can keep the pace with the newly devised threats and exploits (I mean mostly rootkits, hidden driver installations and so on)

Melih - you're welcome. I think that this is a very important word - "architecture". First, I would like to mention that I am not a Comodo fanboy or a fanboy of any other vendor, I tend to focus more on the actual product, and especially some new technologies applied into it. I've been reading some opinions here and there about CPF and some people complain about alerts and so on.
I will look through some posts here on this forum later, nonetheless, I've been wondering, how deep is Comodo integrated with OS kernel. Why? Because I feel that it one of the most important things for now. Tight integration with the system, so that it can monitor the deepest low-level layers of software activity, without being intrusive and without compromising itself.
Quite possibly, I'll write more my - more or less - subjective thoughts and not so subjective ideas later in a relevant section of your forums. The thing that's on my mind is a proficient approach to a layered security concepts using CPF to obtain system with maximum available security for power users.

Hi Melih as a new user to comodo firewall 3 with d+ i find the experience a user friendly one. I like it very much and can't what for the new anti virus to come out so i can use it and have a full fledged security sweet. again thank you for the wonderful firewall, Without d+ i would have never found out about all the applications that phone home or want to run without my permission. thanks and god bless.

Beyond being one of the best FW's out there ... even ones you pay for ...

I have tried a number of firewalls, & generally these have demanded $s after a trial period. 
I can honestly say that CPF has outdone them all, & no more BSODs or leaks!

The learning curve for general setup & tweaking has been far smoother & more fully featured than anything else I've used.  The GUI is visually pleasing & I now have a great activity log that makes tracking events down straightforward & rewarding.  Combined with its' defence+ I now feel more aware & more in control of the PCs activity than ever before.

In fact I have been so happy with CPF over the last year I have dumped my paid-for AV & anti-malware for BOClean & CAV (& the subscription hasn't even finished yet!) in the expectation that the suite will solve all my security needs cohesively.  I have been rewarded with a smaller footprint in operation & the discovery of some bits the fat cat missed!

So a big THANKS to all at Comodo.   (R)

Of course I blamed my problem on Comodo, and removed it but the problem was my laptop lan card. Since then I've went through every (yes every) firewall package on the planet. My last nightmare was zonealarm, which didn't stop the complete slowdown of my internet connection from attacks! The previous firewall  to this, online armor (free version) started the attacks. It looks pretty, but is really a crippled. When the bots go my ip ,  they did a number on my systems. So now with Comodo running correctly, I monitor ip connections and block them. Thanks

We appreciate the feedback sailaway85. for us the priority is to protect you! So Security before beauty in our books! However, now that Comodo is pretty much the only company who achieved this level of security we are now putting beauty in our products!

I just want a firewall, that is just a firewall, dont mind the aplication checker but thats it. With antivirus programes and spyware programmes all trying to do evrything as well there are just too many programes trying to do the samething. I installed the latest ver on my sons PC and just gave up. Too many questions, for me it is a nuisance but for him he just disables it so pointless it being there. Mind you on my machine the older ver has done well so far.

You can install just the Basic Firewall & Not worry about Defense+ :-)

That's why there are 2 options.
