We get many questions on how to configure CFP 3, What to do when install & uninstalling apps to make CFP 3 less noisy, etc. While the installation mode is useful for uninstall/install, It doesn't work all the time (I am not saying this is useless, it's a great feature!!), If you want a good experience with CFP 3, Please follow these steps:
1. Put Defense+ in "
Training Mode" for the fist couple of days. To do this go to:
Defense+/Advanced/Defense+ Settings & slide the bar to
Training Mode. This will learn all your applications and create automatic allow rules for them;
YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE ANY DEFENSE+ ALERTS , But the Firewall will still be automatically in Safe Mode, So it will still protect you're Network, and monitor programs trying to get internet access (TCP, UDP, ICMP & loopback requests). After the first few days, After Defense+ has Learned all your applications you use on a day to day basis (Browser, Email, etc) Switch it back to
Safe Mode (Think off Training Mode like a "Learn Mode" as in Zonealarm :-). Training Mode is also useful for games). See Vettetech's sticky
here.
Note: When Defense+ is in Safe Mode, You will not get any "Pending Files" Waiting for review by you. This is only for Clean PC Mode. If you are SURE you have a 100% Clean PC & You do want to deal with pending files, Put Defense+ in Clean PC Mode. But
ALWAYS have the Firewall in Safe Mode- Under all circumstances. You don't need to really do anything with Pending Files, YOU DON'T HAVE TO, but all your applications currently installed WILL be assumed Safe, and you won't receive any Defense+ alerts, But unknown/new ones introduced will make Defense+ Talk :-). I actually like Clean PC Mode now

.
2.
Installation Method 1: Put Defense+ in Training Mode for Uninstalling/Installing applications. Again, You will receive zero pop ups. But this is very handy, After installing/uninstalling, AGAIN, Put Defense+ in
Safe Mode .
Installation Method 2: When starting to uninstall or install a program/game, and Defense+ Alerts you the first time, Make sure you-
Treat this application as: Installer or Updater A window will then pop up asking you to switch to installation mode, Click "Yes" and you will not receive any Defense+ Alerts during installation or while uninstalling, After a while, The window will pop up again asking you to switch back to previous mode, Only click Yes AFTER you have installed or uninstalled your software.
So, I will now sum everything up:*Training Mode (Defense+)- Is for when playing games and installing & uninstalling Software/Games. Also to LEARN your applications on your PC for the first few days or so.
*Clean PC Mode (Defense+)- If you are SURE your PC is 100% Clean & You want to deal with Pending Files, Use this Mode.
*(Defense+Alert)- Treat as
Installer or Updater when installing or uninstalling programs or games (Zero Pop ups). After a while, The CFP 3 will switch back to original settings.
Reminder: in Clean PC Mode, You DON'T have to deal with Pending Files! If you don't want pending Files, Remove them from the list every few days or so, Or just leave them there.I hope this helps at least a few of you guys, But these are the FAQ I have been getting, & its what quite a few people recommend.
