Hi Gibran,
Running cfpupdat.exe as administrator, I get:- no updates available. However, on startup I get a notification that updates are available. Also, if I run a check for updates through the firewall screen I'm told updates are available. So still a problem somewhere.

Looks like cfpupdat.exe need admin privileges even to check the current version. Does running cfpupdat.exe without "run as admin" yeld the same outcome (no updates available)?

Hi Gibran,
Running cfpupdate.exe without "run as admin" shows:- 'updates are available'.

Hi Gibran,
Running cfpupdate.exe without "run as admin" shows:- 'updates are available'.
I don't really understand why this is happening but it looks like that admin privileges are needed even to confirm the configuration installed.
Maybe the updater open cfpver.dat for read/write access even if it only need to read it. I guess I'll use some sysinternal tool to confirm this tomorrow.

Any word on the status of a fix (not a temporary workaround) for this?

I don't think the fix is available, other than the temporary fix suggested.

The lastest Build.

My computer keeps on thinking that it is using a outdated version. An always updating to the "newest" version. In the summary page the traffic section is empty. It does not notice I am connected to sites in the active connections.
Vista 32 Business Ed. Started since the last build.
I have uninstalled. Used the newest installer. I try the patch but it is not compatible. The "about" say it is the newest version. Diagontics thinks everything is okay.
When I uninstalled I even lost the ablity to connect to anything, like my lan network. During installing it again to atleast get internet back I saw some screen that was a window that have two options about drivers and that was mostly red. It was only for a breif second before it went away. Did not remember that when I installed before.

Is there an official solution? Unofficial solution. Save people's time an headache from having to deal with this problem and put the solution or possible solutions in the first or second post. That is how it is done on most forum where the thread length just keeps piling up.
I was able to fix the thing wanting to update all the time by just deleting everything it comodo's virtual store folder so that it would default to the programs folder, but that does not fix my problem with it detecting network traffic.
