Just did a registry compare.  Aside from the usual suspects, there are some changes in the
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\RESOURCEMAP\PnP Manager\PnpManager] key which may or may not be meaningful.

Other than that, there are changes in the normal
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ComodoGroup]

Quite a number of these though:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\EventSystem\{26c409cc-ae86-11d1-b616-00805fc79216}\Subscriptions\{092A6540-378A-4021-B935-D3266E682FD4}-{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}-{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}]
< "Active"=dword:00000001
< "SubscriptionID"="{092A6540-378A-4021-B935-D3266E682FD4}"
< "SubscriptionName"="{6FE9282C-322D-4924-9F47-1C650401E68E}"
< "EventClassID"="{FAF53CC4-BD73-4E36-83F1-2B23F46E513E}"
< "MethodName"="PreRestore"

Don't think they matter.

Like some others running 2003 Server, I too was welcomed with "there's a new version" message Friday (after Thanksgiving) morning.  "Do you want to upgrage" it asked.  Of course I want to upgrade... I've been waiting for so many things to be implemented/fixed.  Next dialog tells me that the old firewall needs to be removed, I OK it all and still half asleep go to make some coffee.  When I come back there's a "need to reboot" message waiting for me and I OK it too.  System comes up OK but I notice there's no firewall icon.  I think it strange and re-run the installation again.  This time I do notice the "Rollback completed" message, click on Finish and the process quietly exits... still no firewall.  Time to start looking; on the Comodo site I see there's no Win2k3 as a supported system for the V.3.  WHAT?!  Then WHY WAS I TOLD THAT THERE'S AN UPGRADE AVAILABLE in the first place?!  URGH!  I download V.2, install it only to find out that the "upgrade" process wiped out all of my previous firewall settings, and I end up sitting there allowing or disallowing every single program anew for another hour (and that's a lot better than some others report).

THANKS A LOT!  Way to start a day!!!  Great going guys... free or not, somebody should be sent to the corner to meditate over the concequences, causes, and effects for a long time.

Used that download.com 2.4.16 version and re-installed.

It didn't work.  but did say "there is an upgrade available."

Figuring it would probably try and put 3.0 on, but not having anything to lose, I said "yes" again

Reboot, and lo and behold it works.

I am using 2.4.19.185... This is apparently the latest one for 2003 Server, not 3.0.

Apparently Comodo Support doesn't care about giving us a feedback on when to look for win2k3 support....

 Angry

Is w2k3 support planned for a future release ?

Hi

Congratulations on the release of COMODO firewall Pro 3 ! However, some of us are excluded from enjoying the benefit of this new but relegated to continue to use v2.4.

Are there any plans to make v3 work in Windows 2003 server. I walked away from my full paid subscription of ZA because later releases excluded Windows 2003 Server. I strongly hope you are not going in the same direction ?

I use your Firewall as my main Firewall for my business internet connection and it works well.

Thanks

I feel the same anger Bajker feels thought i took mine as me breaking my golden rule never to replace a working software without first testing.

The exact same thing happened to me and i felt like a fool - i only didn't complain becasue COMODO is a freeware otherwise i would have vex lots.

I recommedned that COMODO switch off the upgrade encourager for Windows systems v3 doesn't support. I don't feel this would be difficult as this is a few If statements ot Select case - a no brainer.

Support in W2K3 is important to some of us otherwise, i would migrate away from COMODO just like i did for my paid ZA when it quit supporting W2K3.

Thanks

No! No! No!  Don't try it; there are several disastrous reports here of people who did it accidentally.  Only XP and Vista are supported.

Here's my 2¢...

All you people asking for V3 on Win 2k3 are nuts, why would you even THINK of putting something like this on a production server.  Thats what stuff like Trustix is for.  Even in the event you want this server in DMZ, no MCSA or MCSE in their right mind would put a bugged out application like this on a server.  (no offense comodo)

As one of the best "free" firewalls I have found, the only complaint is that you use the people as guinypigs to do your debugging.  But we are all used to it from M$.

Third, stop hounding comodo to put back W2k3 support for your cracked frankenstation, a $4000 enterprise server OS is of course better than XP, but companies aren't gonna jump through hoops to make their software run on an OS that it is not meant to be run on.  Go back to downloading some other cracked firewall off those torrentz u lamerz.

Oh, and comodo, if I don't get a chance to post in the feature request forum, why don't u consider making your firewall open-source if you are commited to it being FREE for all time.  Winblowz could use a good firewall sauce.

Agreed.  But who says they want to add it to a production server? Perhaps they are testing a theoretical scenario... Who knows?  Maybe they are running a 4 processor (not core) Itanium system they got cheap from a clearance sale of old business servers that came with 2K3 and want to use it at home as their desktop.

Bugged-out? Heh. Prolly shouldn't be using a Microsoft Product as a Server at all in that case.  Ok ok, cheap shot, but think about it, since we need to use Trustix to provide protection for a Win2K3 server, perhaps you need to get a Linux+ or RHCT cert. and use RH as your server Kewl  BTW, Trustix is pretty cool, but I'd prefer a BSD-based goodie  Nerd  Win2K3 is so bad, MS had to effectively disable IE on install with the advanced security config. due to the security issues with their own product.  Someone got paid too much! or not enuf! Bounce

It might have been true pre-vista, but now that we've seen how awful nt 6.0 is, it's no surprise power users are moving to 2k3 on the desktop.  Better driver support, less bloat (less than a non-server like vista, imagine!) and better support for XP appz make it a functional alternative to vista.

If it weren't for frankenstations, MS would have far less market share than it does today.  Proof of this is the amazing proliferation of workarounds to get vista working...  I've never seen so many exploits: full install from upgrade version (built-in by Microsoft), time-stopper, wga removal/spoofs, local KMS vm-ware server activation, BIOS OEM patch... and the list goes on.  Either MS is soooper sloppy (and thus get what they deserve) or these exploits were intentional at some level.  After all , if the poor/cheap can't crack it, they'll head for Linux.

On open-source, they are probably waiting 'till we're all addicted, then we can buy a 2K3 patch later without them violating the GNU License.  JK!   Wink

Where did you get the idea that Comodo Firewall isn't supposed to be used on w2k3 ?
v2.4 had no problems and Comodo Firewall even supports Vista .
Maybe Comodo don't have enough confidence in the quality of v3 and that's why they wont
release a version that supports w2k3 ?
This is another advantage of using w2k3, software-vendors are much less likely to use you
as a lab-rat for their prematurely released products ..

Still, some official statement would be great. I`m using 2k3 i got from MSAA, as a desktop box (it beats XP in almost anything), a pity i have to use v2  with it, whereas my lappy on XP already has v3.

Not all Win2k3`s are production servers. Following your argument, why support win2k3 at all?
Win2k3 is often run by students as a desktop box, often used for MS Admin/AD/Domain practicing.
