The America's Army rules work, but only needed when hosting a server. when you're just playing it's enough to "Allow" AA in the popup window of the firewall. Smiley

I realise that but the whole idea was to eliminate the pop ups by creating the rules first. This is because some games only open full screen and users dont see the pop up if it appears under the game and wonder why things aren't happening. Pre-creating the rule stops this happening.

Well, I have yet to find a game in Windows XP that you cannot Alt+Tab/Alt+Enter/Ctrl+Esc out of, so I never really bothered.

I guess not everyone knows that, heh.

LOL. I never cease to be amazed by what basic fuinctionality people don't know about.

One problem is that some server side games are time critical for responses, and if a user has a CPF alert open under a game and doesn't know about it and therefore doesn't respond, they get punted. Pre-creating the rules overcomes this. Besides, it makes the overall experience better for the users and the name of the game.

Sounds good.

Perhaps I missed something though... Is there going to be some gamer pack .reg file that games can download and just execute? Or?..

I think Panic is only trying to help gamers that find it hard to play games with CPF, not showing pop-ups. Creating the rules would allow them to play without anything else.

Sure alt-tab does wonders for me :Smiley, but Panic is trying to help others that don't find that useful.

Hi, i have the program Xfire for my games and when i click a server which is in xfire it loads the game but does not connect because the firewall is blocks the parent xfire and the game tries to load.
to avoid this is turn my firewall to allow all and i hate doing that because anything could happen to my pc when playing a game.

So can u please give me the rule to play my games with the program xfire, i can play them without xfire fine because i have allowed the games to do that in CPF but i cannot manage to do it in xfire.

Also 1 thing that really annoys me most about CPF is that when i close the program down i see the popup message about it wants to connect but it quickly goes away becasue the game doesn't want to connect to the net anymore, i wish it was like zonealarm and it stayed so you can actually set the rule for it when you have quit the game

that is all

thanks

You can set the time the popup shows.
You do that in security/advanced/misc.
Default is 120 seconds, so set it to 300 or so...
You can try to let the game open, and then quit it immediately, so you can see the popup.
You can set a rule for Xfire if you don't have it.
Click add in application monitor.
The app is "C:\Program\Xfire\xfire.exe"
Parent is"C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe"
then allow TCP/UDP, OUT, any, any, and on the misc tab check both "allow invisible..." and "skip advanced security ..."

Do the same with one more rule, but with a different parent.
The app is "C:\Program\Xfire\xfire.exe"
Parent is"C:\Program\Xfire\68.exe"

I also have IN rules with the same apps/parents but where destination is my zone. If you don't have a zone, you can put any there.

The easiest thing to do is to set Xfire to allow everything and choose "skip parent", just to try it out.

If you need to set your game.exe and the parent Xfire.exe just add it manually by clicking the Add button in application monitor.
You can test it by setting your game to "skip parent" first if you want.

Hope this helps...

This is great. But will it be part of comodo Firewall in the future?

Iam one of the persons that really would like to have somthing that would work auto. A fuction that would open in connection to match out connections would proberly be the best way to get the Network rulles to be more auto.
Or do what Steel Security (Gaming Firewall/Antivirus) have done whit there firewall whit help from there Game profiles. By testing and coleting network rulls it would be posibal to make a gaming database for Comodo firewall and just be abel to type in Battlefiel 2 and the rulls for the game would be gennerated.

The only stuppid thing about Steel Security is that it shuts down the Antivirus part when a person starts op an game that is on the gaming profile list. That is just stuppid. No protetion will playing games  Cry

While not directly a game, this is a rule that is somewhat required by many games.

Microsoft DirectPlay8 Server (port forwarding service for games)
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dpnsvr.exe
ALLOW TCP/UDP IN/OUT ANY ANY

Might want to get more port/protocol specific... i just went for "give it what it needs (and more) so I don't get interrupted in full screen games" approach.

Food for thought if anything...

HI!

I'm having a problem with setting rules for Warhammer 40000: Dawn of War

Quote from: readme.txt of the game
W40kDoW uses these ports for hosting direct games and receiving connections:

   UDP   6112

GameSpy may require openning these ports:

   UDP   6500
   TCP   6667
   UDP   27900
   UDP   27901
   TCP   28910
   TCP   29900
   TCP   29901
   UDP   29910
   TCP   29920

so I've added rules as follows:

NETWORK MONITOR RULE
---------------------
Action : ALLOW
Protocol : UDP
Direction : IN/OUT
source IP : ANY
Destination IP : ANY
Source Port : ANY
Destination Port : 6112

Action : ALLOW
Protocol : UDP
Direction : IN/OUT
source IP : ANY
Destination IP : ANY
Source Port : ANY
Destination Port : 6500,27900,27901,29910

Action : ALLOW
Protocol : TCP
Direction : IN/OUT
source IP : ANY
Destination IP : ANY
Source Port : ANY
Destination Port : 6667,28910,29900,29901,29920

APPLICATION MONITOR RULE
-------------------------
APPLICATION : W40k.exe
PARENT: Skip
ACTION : Allow
PROTOCOL : TCP/UDP
DESTINATION IP : ANY
DESTINATION PORT : ANY

my problem is that I can log on to lobby, I can see all the games there, I can join them and play (I could have done all that without even setting a single Network Rule, just App. Rule), yet I can't make a game
after setting the map, etc., I receive notification that: I can't get the list of games from server. The problem might be that the server is off or your configuration of router or firewall.

I don't have a router, the server is on, I've checked it (ping peerchat.gamespy.com)

so, please tell me what did I do wrong? Wink

btw. I'm using CFP 2.4.16.174

You should only use IN on your rules. There is an Out rule for everything already.
Have you moved them ABOVE the default block rule?
If it still doesn't work, check the log.

Freelancer (a space simulator)use a "hidden" global server trough user can create personal servers for clients to connect.
Even if i allow al activity for freelancer.exe, i don't see a list of available servers , maybe because acces for  global server is blocked somehow... i don't know how to create a rule in that situation.

Silkroad online (www.silkroadonline.net) is a well knoW MMORPG.
