stop harvesting? haha... they just edit their scripts a little.

The best way I've seen around this is in the Lotus Notes forum add-on. They have a script that replaces the [at] symbol with a space and it also randomly adds spaces to every post. If the harvest script is modified to check for two consecutive spaces, they end up with so much garbage it's not worth their time to parse it all, but it does make their forums look a tad messy.  Wink

cheers,

Glad to hear it works well for you.

Thank you very much for the Spanish translation. I've added it to the main backup script posting (http://forums.comodo.com/index.php/topic,2366.msg18544.html#msg18544). Can you please add a post in the Spanish forums that there is now a Spanish version of the backup script.

Again, thanks a million.

can someone put this "network control rules back-up procedure" in an easy to use step-by-step tutorial for non-computer experts? I like the comodo firewall, but in the last couple of months of trying it out, for some reason, comodo has lost my network control rules (about 20 to 25 rules including IP range blocks) at least 3 times. (this last time the last 12 to 15 just vanished).  this last time, I just started writing them to notepad and using a print screen utility program to back them up.....but 1) the complete individual ruleset is sometimes off the screen when you use an IP range block (and you can't resize the comodo GUI to dimish the 5 objects to the left (tasks, app mon, comp mon, net mon, advanced) and give more room to the network control rules so they are completely visable for a screen shot, and increasing screen resolution or decreasing font size doen't seem to help). 2) you can't copy/paste anything from the comodo screen for either a notepad/wp back-up or just to post on this forum(which is absolutely ridiculous, imo). comodo really needs to increase  those 5 objects to 6 and after advanced put in a "network control rule back-up" as number 6, when/if version firewall version 3 ever comes out. hopefully version 3 will also be password protected for the user who surfs in the xp limited user mode as well.

OK, step by step instructions on running the backup script (assuming you have already downloaded the script).

1. Run the script by double clicking on it

G'day again.

My previous post was just a light hearted dig - please don't take offense.

There really isn't anything more I could add, as Rotty's script is designed to just be double clicked and it does everything else. It checks for the existence of the folders it needs to store the backup in, creates them if they don't exist, extracts the firewall rules from the registry and writes them to the correct folder after storing a backup copy of your previous rules backup.

To restore the rules from the backup (which is stored as a Windows .REG registry file), simply go to the folder it is stored in (after setting the firewall to "Allow all" and turning off its registry protection) and double click the REG file.

After the registry info is re-merged, set the firewall back to "Custom" and turn on registry protection.

Hope this helps,
Ewen :-)

thx, guys. I'll read through the complete post and try and figure it out.  Grin  I suppose something like this would be "way too cool" for a free-firewall to have in the activity monitor.

direct to image. http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/1270/61927012px4.jpg
btw, I don't want to hi-jack this thread, but as in the pic, sometimes I get 2 connections to a webpage like google or even my homepage. Could this be indicative of something ((malware) tagging along, or is this normal?

"whois" lookup is already in the wishlist and I believe that it will appear in some version of CFP V3 (due to go to beta April 16th), along with the long anticiapted password protection on the firewalls config.

Just because CFP is free, please don't make the mistake of thinking that Comodo won't put added functionality in to it. The current release if CFP is (approxiamtely) 70% Comodo and 30% user requests. They listen to what we all want in it and if our wants fit into their architecture, they generally find a way to squeeze it (providing the added feature won't add too much size or overhead or complexity).

Comodo are pretty unique in their openess to end users. Have a look through the wishlists to get a feel of where this could end up.

Hope this helps,
Ewen :-)

I have to give a bit of credit to Panic !!! (Credit where credit is due).

Also you either disconnect the cable to the internet from your computer and then set the firewall to allow all or you have a router between you and the internet.

If you think you have a virus please post the details at the following link:

Just want to say thank you for this simple solution.   Not perfect but good enough to help me do a compare between another solution and this one. Cheers

G'day,

DOH! We should have made this clearer. This backup script is for CFP V2.4 ONLY.

I have modified the script to make it work for CFP V3. I'm just heading into a loooooooong meeting and don't have time to track the link down now, but I'll chase it up and post back here with the link later tonight.

Cheers,
Ewen :-)

Here's the link:

I have also modified the Subject line of the original post to include the version #.

Hope that helps,
