Why not use the FAQ section here?

You can't allow all incoming...
You are loosing most of your protection then...
You should only allow the port that your file sharing program use.
If you get a lot of ICMP messages, just create a rule just above the default block rule, that block all ICMP and do not check the "create an alert" box.

But surely the application layer offers protection even if I "disable" the network layer?

You have some protection, but it's not really good.
You don't need to turn it off.
The whole point of the "layered" protection goes away...
That's why CFP is so secure.
If you have a router you still have pretty good protection, but it's best to have network monitor on.
If a file sharing program doesn't work, you only have to open a port for it.
Most programs work without touching network monitor.

AOwL,

Your link sent me to an array of posts, my link sends people to a page with pictures showing how to set up the firewall to accept specific ports.

Although your link is useful, it is more time consuming.  Why search for the needle in a haystack when it can be handed to you without searching?

Don't know if this will help anybody.

I had cpu usage spikes every 2 seconds.  I noticed ,in the logs, that it would block a series of ICMP packets(fragmented or faked) every 2 seconds.  It is even worse when I have bittorrent running.  Cpu usage would spike up to 50% and playing games would be a nightmare with all that lagging.

I didn't feel like allowing all ICMP packets, so I just went to the log to disable logging ICMP.  Now there are no more cpu spikes.  To do that, go to logs, then right-click, mouse over "log events from", and uncheck "Network Monitor".

I don't know why I get ICMP blocks all the time.  Probably something to do with the University network scans  Huh

Here is a screenshot of CPF CPU usage while browsing my a web-mail page with Fx browser:

THIS is absolutely inacceptable! Page loading time in browser increases tremendously as well.

But as soon as I disable DLL injection monitoring the CPU usage drops to 0.

PS: No, it's not P200MMX. It's AXP2400+.

Hi soyabeaner

Perhaps you should raise a support ticket on this at Comodo Support. I really don't think it should be necessary to disable the Monitoring of DLL Injections to get CFP to work properly.

I'm using uTorrent at the moment, but it's just two downloads going, so cmdagent is at 0% and cfp.exe is at 1%

Do you only have problems when you use FX browser?

CPU usage is most when creating connections. When the session is already established it almost doesn't eat CPU. That's why it significantly slows down browsing but has little effect with downloading files. However, I haven't tried it with a very popular trackers (>1000 peers), then it may also slow down everything.

You should also check your PC so that no malware is trying to do a DLL injection.

No malware found, CPU still peaks briefly at 100% when opening webpages, not sure if this is a worry or not now. Makes no difference if monitor dll injections is off or on.

How can I know what you are djet...?
The problem with "experts" is that they often look for the most complicated problems first, instead of looking for an easy answer...
Like I said, I've never had any problems with high CPU with any stable or beta release of CFP.
If 20 users out of 80000 have high CPU usage, it's not probably a general bug.
The only thing I can suggest is a uninstall with a registry clean after reboot, and then a install where you choose "auto". Reboot. Scan for known apps and make a trusted zone/network if you are in a network. Reboot.
I know it's basic, but...
It's easier for us other users to help if we know that you have the default install/settings.
Feel free to try and solve this problem and post the solution here.
You can also submit a support ticket to Comodo  and they might be able to help.

You can also try to manually add all DLL's for Fx browser in component monitor.

The Monitor DLL Injections in relation to high CPU usage for some reason doesn't affect my system when I first reboot.  It takes some time for this issue to start.  The same happened in 2.3.  At least this time I'm not the only user with a similar problem Wink
