Bit Torrent does not use UDP so why not just a TCP rule?

Yes it does.  UDP is mainly for DHT.  Without it your download speeds will most definitely drop (unless the torrent is popular).

Prior to version 3.2, BitTorrent by default uses ports in the range of 6881-6889. As of 3.2 and later, the range has been extended to 6881-6999. (These are all TCP ports, BitTorrent does not use UDP.)

Hmm you see I went to the Bit Tornado website first to readup on what I had to do this is there FAQ

Now I dont claim to be an expert on these things but these are TCP ports? These are the ones I set the rule for and set up BT to use so are there others I need to open?

It gets very confusing when one set of people tell you one thing and another set another thing. Web 2.0 now with added contradiction :p

I see.  Sorry about that.  I though you meant the bittorrent protocol itself, not the original, official client.  There are clients like uTorrent that utilizes UDP for DHT (trackerless torrents).

I did mean the protocol :S (though I get it does now)
Thats the FAQ linked from Bit Tornados homepage so when it refers to Bit Torrent I assumed it meant the protocol.

The question still remains though. I only configured CFW and Bit Tornado to use these ports and its telling me these are TCP ports. So do I need to configure both to use a different TCP/UDP port to get the best speed. (I noticed someone back a few post was using port 44444 which is much higher than the ones suggested in that guide)

Why not?  The best way to prove whether your tornado requires UDP is to create a new rule to allow and see if the speed increases.  As for the port # assigned as the listening one, I agree to use a high number like 44444.  It's basically to ensure that no other applications on your computer hogs over it to avoid conflicts.
