I'm having the same problem as well. I don't know whats going on and I reinstall my vista cause SP1 slowed me down and so far what I've SP1 is not recommended for home users.

SP1 cured this problem for me.
Did you install SP1 from Windows Update.

Please don't get me wrong because I am just making a remark which definitely will not help you. But I have to say: it is not "SP1 is not recommended..."  it is Vista itself should not be recommended to any user. My opinion. When XP expired I am on Mac or Unix. Ubuntu already running on old PC. Testing... and I am Very impressed.

I know vista has some problems since It's release but I got my laptop with vista on it and my only retail copy of XP is assigned to my old dell desktop pc. I'm just your normal pc user who surfs the web, play online games and other typical stuff. I'm not really that OS savvy or whatever... I'm here to learn and try figure things out and no offense taken.

No problems for me if anything it improved performance as I only have 1GB ram and this is a bit low for Vista I did SP1 from the download file not through Windows Update also uninstalled firewall and antivirus so I wanted to do it offline. I had heard that there could be problems using Windows Update.

Look when this thread was started. and I am sure the issue was raised in other places.
I am not aware of the answer with exact solution.
But you may try what I did as a workaround (reply #9) and it worked since flawlessly with SP2 and now with SP3

I've had differrent issues on several comps with CFP's driver not running, more or less related to the case. What I want to stress out is that CFP SHOULD alert its impaired functionality either via tray icon, popup, or balloon popup, not just in the main window!

You are right. But probably you meant  CMF as for Memory Firewall...
at the same time you are right again  because SFP has similar problem which I raised long ago
When you go through Miscellaneous /Diagnostics more often you'll find that sometimes there IS actually a problem ... and you CFP offers to fix it after that. That's good but not good enough, because one may have it for several days or more (long session without switching off)
having no idea about it. So I suggested the similar periodical self-checkup and subsequent message/pop-up/balloon/shotgun loud surround sound/anything... to notify the user
