Hi

Im trying to install Comodo backup but can only get so far, then the error message, 1608: unable to create InstallDriver instance, appears and I can go no further. I have tried as suggested at http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108324 but it didnt make any difference. Anyone any ideas.

many thanks

Grandpa

Hey grandpaj,

Keep trying is all I can suggest. I had this issue installing an older version of hte firewall that also used the InstallShield installer. In fact, Comodo wrote their own installer, which will be used in all future products, primarily because of this type of InstallShield error.

Macrovision have numerous versions of their uninstaller, depending upon what version of Installshield you have on your system. In my case, I had a hideous misture of InstallShield 6, 7 and 9. I ended up having to run the V9 uninstaller, then the V7 and finally the V6, with reboots in between each uninstall (just to make sure).

Double check your registry before you run the uninstallers to determine what versions you have installed and uninstall from the highest version downwards.

Hope this helps,
Ewen :-)

Hi

Thanks for that. I installed the latest version of Backup, and all seems to be OK.

Many thanks

NP grandpaj,

I'll mark this as resolved, but I'd still recommend that you clear up the InstallShield mess.

Cheers,
Ewen :-)
