gandalf,

What is your os bit: x32 or x64?
What is setup of CFP? "Basic" or with Defense+?

Running the diagnostics does not help
Did you run it from admin account? If not, try so.

Check if cmdagent.exe is running in memory after you log in (task manager should be enough to find out).

Try to uninstall CFP from safe mode, remove all traces of Kerio (files and reg keys), disable windows firewall, disable any other resident apps and services just before re-installing CFP (in normal mode!)

This is x32 on a Dell Latitude D620. Setup is with Defense+. I ran it from the admin account, of course ;-)
cmdagent.exe is running after installation.

I uninstalled CFP completely and manually checked for and removed traces of Comodo in the registry. Of course, all traces of Kerio have been removed as well prior to Comodo installation. Windows firewall has been disabled a long time ago.

What do you mean by disabling other resident applications and services? Obviously, there are some that I can't disable.

If there should be any conflict, why does Comodo diagnostics not tell me why it is of the opinion that it does not function properly? What is the reason for the display of this nasty message?

Did you remove the legacy keys for Kerio I found them in the Comodo config files in the registry.
I do not know if this would have caused any problems because I uninstall CPF3 and removed the Kerio keys and soon as I found them.
Dennis
PS Still like Kerio (not sunbelt) but it would not have worked on Vista

I meant other hips, resident antivirus, antispyware if any.

Maybe one of 3 drivers cannot load or functions not properly. Don't know though. Sorry, it seems that it was little help from me. Don't know what else can be done...

Take a look at the merged thread http://forums.comodo.com/empty-t15023.0.html for the collected wisdom on this long standing problem and the potential work arounds.

I've tried all that "wisdom" from the other thread to the extent it was applicable in my scenario. Nothing helped.

I'm back to Comodo 2.4 now.

For the sake of testing, today I set up a plain Windows XP SP2 system with the current hotfixes from Microsoft Windows Update. No virus scanner, no anti-spyware software, not even Microsoft Office. The only software I installed in addition to the operating system was Firefox (latest release). Then came the latest CFP 3.0.21 release. Guess, what the result was... no matter whether Defense+ is selected during installation or not, the firewall claims after reboot that it's not functioning properly. Firefox does not start because some internal communication is blocked, while IE works fine.

Looks like there is something left to do until CFP 4.0.

Cheers,

Did your harddisk was formatted as basic disk type or as dynamic disk type?

When trying out WinXP SP2 with CF 3.X I got CF running fine till I converted from basic disk type to dynamic disk type. Soon after a reboot "The network firewall is not functioning properly" was showing up.

[at]bugmenot777: I have no idea what my disk is formatted as. I never changed the disk formatting type. I just know that 2.4 runs fine and 3.0.something also ran fine. From some point on (3.0.14?) problems popped up. I can't say, however, when exactly this started. In any case, if the disk partition type decides whether my firewall works or not, I would consider this piece of software untested crap. Esp. a firewall should not depend on such details.

[at]Ark, there were no warnings whatsoever during installation. Diagnostics is also quiet.

I'm also getting this error message.
I'm using the 64bit setup of 3.0.21.329 on windows xp pro x64.
When i run diagnostics it says that theres something wrong with the installation and asks if i want to fix it. If i chose yes nothing happens. And when i shut down windows i can see that the diagnostics program is not responding (this is  an hour after i start the diagnostics)

As far as i can tell the firewall works anyway. Basic online firewall tests is blocked and defence+ is monitoring applications.

This is the things i have tried that did not fix the problem
Installing as administrator
Installing in safe mode
Installing without defence+
Reparing installation with diagnostics

This problem started on a fresh windows installation so there shouldn't be any software conflicts.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

If the firewall would at least report in which way and why it thinks it is not functioning properly.... I just love error messages in the form "something's wrong". Is there a log with more details or can I enable a debugging mode to get more information... just some log where there is a concrete error message?

I find it rather disappointing to have a product that simply tells me that it does not work properly, but without any concrete error message or complaint. Comodo, that's ZoneAlarm level.

It also seems that nobody from Comodo seems to think it is necessary to fix anything to at least provide better diagnostics, as this persists now already since some versions ago. VERY disappointing.

I have Windows XP Pro SP2.
AVG Anti-Virus, Spyware
Spyware Doctor
Just uninstalled ZoneAlarm

I downloaded and installed Comodo 3.0.21.329.  Once I was told that Comodo had installed, restarted...
Windows hung- it wouldn't go beyond the initial screen.  I reset the computer, and was prompted to start with the last known good configuration, Windows started, but I got the error message that the network firewall is not functioning properly.  After running diagnostics, which found problems, and claimed to have fixed them- when I restarted- as suggested (Comodo was still saying that it wasn't functioning properly...), Windows hung, reset, last known good configuration... etc. etc. etc.

After uninstalling and reinstalling (and checking that ZoneAlarm was completely uninstalled as per http://www.nohold.net/noHoldCust25/Prod_1/Articles55646/CompleteUninstallNonNT.html ) the problem is still repeating itself.  Help!!! Huh
