updater fridges at 30% and after a long time says that the pc is not connected

The updater is not working for several days, specifically since Dec 29, 2009 in my laptop which is an Intel Core2Duo , running Windows XP Sp3 . But my desktop is also running SP3, but the updater is working just fine there.
I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling again, but it fridges at 30% again.
One more thing, I was using SP2 when I first installed CIS, and then updated to SP3.

Where can i download the latest full AV database?
.
There have been problems since around that date that can be worked around with the above procedure.
