Only difference I see is that one applies to both XP SP3 Home and Professional while the other only applies to the Professional edition.

Sorry for double posting here but one of my friends contacted me last night and said when he tries to apply some of the security patches to his version of xp he gets a message saying setup cannot be continued because Windows Search 4 is needed. He got freaked out and called me and asked if that could somehow have further messed up his security on his system? He is scared to go online. I told him I have no clue about his problem as from time to time I just let automatic update do it's thing on my machine.

Ok spoke to him and he said it happened when he applied the kb963093 patch. Additionally he told me that he is on xp service pack 2. So is he ok? Also should I tell him to just upgrade to service pack 3?

Service pack 3 comes with all the patches and some updates (like support for Dual/quadcore) so yes. I advise you to update

True clean freaks don't install stuff unless they're portable Best to consult with nerds before snatching the cheese from the mousetrap Grin. I agree with this, it also makes reinstalling a breeze (also less crap in the registry too)

It's hard being a crooked Admin when the files won't pass an md5checksum test. But like any other good crooked Admin it can be done, it just takes time(and lots of it) and a few aspirins
