lol. Kail, I think they've improved a bit since the 90's, but their internet service is still pretty damn crummy.
I also have an issue with their ethics. They lack integrity.

NAP? I thought the SP3 NAP additions were just to allow XP to be a fully functional client for NAP on a W2008 server? Is this not the case?
Okay. I thought it was some extension to Windows Firewall to increase the security or something.
Cheers,

LirvA: Integrity eh? Perhaps they have improved then.. they lacked a usable service in my day.
Ragwing: Sorry, misunderstanding, I don't know.. that's why I was asking (my info could be old or out-of-date).

Yea, they're internet service is actually usable these days, but still pretty crappy.
They definitely lack integrity.
First of all, they're software borders on adware. Every time I log on, they are shoving ads down my throat. I can't even check my email without being harassed by annoying ads, probably infecting my computer with web tracking cookies.
More importantly, AOL released users' search records.

Yea, they totally lack integrity.

I installed it with windows update yesterday and it has managed to turn my Dell desktop into so much junk.
I cannot even get into safe mode and the bsod STOP messages are not the usual ones.
Just an update on this, I eventually managed to get into Dell's recovery partition, which I was unable to do at first, so I have a computer back to the way it was delivered, so am now spending many hours removing Dell's junk and restoring all my programs.
Fortunately I use Firefox and Thunderbird and have restored all my files and emails etc with MozBackup which I keep up to date. 12 years of Quicken accounts were also backed up to a USB stick, so no major problems as I have documents, photos etc copied to my laptop. I also have a Mozy backup on line if anything else is needed.

There seems to be an issue with some OEM images as installed at the factory and AMD processors.
It's due to the OEM loading a driver that's not needed by AMD; SP3 (and SP2) cause crashes.
It's discussed, and work-around given, here:

The only positive feeling is there are ways to avoid it in the first place

Re:
Jesper's blog
.
SP3 problems doesn't just impact OEM XP builds on AMD systems (AMD/Intel IO driver issue). There seems to be a problem with ASUS motherboards as well (nothing to do with OEM XP builds), specifically the A8N32-SLI Deluxe mobo (although there have been reports on other ASUS mobos & of successes on the A8N32-SLI) relating to connected HDDs & USB devices (details/causes not clear yet). And there are other problems (ATI 8.4 drivers, for one). Jesper gives details & work-arounds for all (most) of these issues.
I've not tried SP3 on my AMD system as yet (guess what mobo my AMD system has).

Install of SP3 onto my AMD A8N32-SLI desktop was faultless (AFAIK).
