RADIO STATIONS
«
on:
February 16, 2007, 03:29:28 AM »
OK, Here is a list of Radio stations that are available real-time online.
Please note that no moderator here is a dictionary of overseas languages and is rather hard to dictate what stations might contain Political, Social or Religious opinions. So for the sake of completeness lets just assume that they ALL contain these topics and not be surprised if they do appear on the radio stations
.
NOTE: This list is not complete, please feel free to note any countries that need to be added. If any countries names are misspelled please notify me.
NOTE: ALL Mods are welcome to edit this thread as necessary!!!!
NOTE: Please post additions, eventually if this catches on then the additions will be moved to their own thread, to keep this thread clean.

There are many more. For example, just about every over-the-air and satellite network of the BBC is available and there is a station I like near Sta. Cruz, California, KPIG which broadcasts an eclectric mix of classic rock, folk, country, all with live DJ's.
Probably the best web page for lists of webcasts is
http://www.comfm.com
. It's better if you can read French as their English pages have some language errors.

Just to note, i personally never touch screen savers, smiley packages and some lyric sites are known to be dodgy. Radio stations are free as it is, but people will still try to make an extra dollar out of it. This list is good in my opinion because other people have used the website and if there was spyware or exploits then it would most likely not be recommended.
There is never 100% certainty, but it is as good as it will get (-: .

During the last months, I've come about many so called freeware proggies offering free listening to radio stations (even with recording functions)...
I am not sure if they are really the finest choices at the moment.
Still, there is one prog, that is still available, and I recommended it way often in the past (not yet on this very board, obviously).
It's my all time fave, and somehow I feel it's the only spyware free online Radio prog out there (+ very easy to use, and enabling you to record whilst listening).
http://www.screamer-radio.com/
PS: Really sorry, but I think the list above is not really as good....
Maybe there's quite a bunch of links that won't work with screamer radio either, but it's a secure proggie, and I found many fine stations with it, over the last years.
Why not try it, and tell us all, afterwards, if you like it?
Cheers

I am aware of allot of programs that automate the above list. I personally, do not like having extra program on my computer when I already have winamp which I can use.
Perhaps a better idea is to keep the list above, but also add a section at the top of SAFE(No spyware/adware/Trojan behavior) multi-station radio programs/sites. There's a challenge

I also use jetAudio. What do you think about the new interface compared to 2 years ago?
WinAmp has more plugins, but the free jetAudio has more basic features built in. Not sure if the Paid versions benefits would make it worth updating?
Disappointed in that jetCast has not been updated in quite a while. The main problem was that several times a year the servers would go down. When I used jetCast I played a mixture from Old rock to old and some new country. I called my connection Uncle D.J.'s Collection.
As for as radio stations online there are many. Normally the only spyware are cookies. And I have 2-3 extra email accounts if they need that.
I have noticed that audio quality differs with stream providers. It is just not the provider but the stations engineers to ensure the program is not over modulated or have too much treble or bass.
Also found that stream providers get bought up and change.
Probably in metropolitan areas about half the terrestrial stations stream.
Even though I live 1 1/2 hours from St.Louis, I listen mostly to stations from California and Tennessee. Old Rock and Roll mykearth101.com really good stereo from the 60's and 70's,
KFOG.com has on Sundays acoustic Sunrise and many classic rock from that era,
Country wsmonline.com the home of the Grand Old Opera.
As I said there are many good stations, but at least for me is the audio quality and "
Stereo
" that I seem to miss in todays recordings.

As a general rule please post references (As unbiased as possible
) to the product that reviews it, or a download site that claims to have no spyware/adware that hosts the file.
