   If MSE had been installed the system would have come out clean as a virgin.

   Microsoft can't have MSE pre-installed because of anti-trust laws, but soon they will find a way to push it to users; and things will became different in the realm of security vendors.

Why cant they push out the sigs for MSE to windows defender. Even the new windows defender UI looks very similar to the MSE UI and they both have spynet. What's the actual differences between the two other than signatures?

   The core engine of MSE is the one from Forefront. There are other particularities like a sort of cloud computing and outbound filtering properties. Besides, when you install MSE, Defender is automaticly disabled; that's because Defender is basicly an anti spyware.
   Although Microsoft itself reveals no details you can get a reasonable picture in their forums.

I notice in the CIS versus zero-day threat videos, several times Defense+ catches the malware doing suspicious things and asks the user what to do.  "Block" is selected, whereupon even though that one attempted action was presumably blocked, the malware keeps right on running, as shown in the "Task Manager" list.

Why don't all Defense+ alerts have an extra button marked "KILL THIS PROCESS ENTIRELY, RIGHT NOW!" or similar, if shorter, wording?

This seems like it'd be an excellent idea.  Get a Defense+ alert that some process you never heard of is trying to do things that look evil?  Hit the kill button.

It's also pretty worrying how much zero-day stuff sailed right past CIS in its default "Internet Security" mode, particularly after hearing so much bragging about how great Defense+ is.

I installed CIS in the default "Internet Security" mode, but then modified it to much more closely resemble the settings in "Proactive Security", so I should be better off than the video depicts... but I can't know for sure.
