Yes. Use nLite/vLite and you'll only have to see 1/4 of that list all the time

If you wish to decrease the size of the list, find out which services you can shut down and which auto-starts you don't need! Soon enough you'll also have 13 processes running, like I do.

This is kinda stupid, but disabling the wallpaper will save you 1-6 MB RAM...

Not stupid, just a bit dreary. On the other hand, one seldom just sits there and look at the desktop - it's just there to give you a nice welcome when booting up.

Do not ever use registry cleaners of any kind. I used a lot of them on xp and vista but I noticed performance degradation. It is well knows that such software may cause more problems then it solves but I guess everyone will have to try and see it for themselves if it helps or not. Registry is very important part of operating system, so I think it is not good to mess with it, although it has a backup version. At least it is what I read a few days ago.
I suppose if you really want best performance try to spend 150$ or so for a fast hard drive and defrag it every now and then. Than you really may see your computer work a lot faster. Raptor sounds so nice......

In which way have you noticed performance degradation? As many programs (of any kind) messes with the registry, especially when being uninstalled, I think it's a good idea to "unmess" the registry. With carefulness.

The problem with registry cleaners/tweakers isn't really the software itself, but the user. They often don't check what the software will do, and just click, and it might delete some important registry entries. So it's always a good idea to check what's being deleted, instead of just deleting everything.

Hello folks,i think this is the appropriate place to put this(not sure) but the problem im having is i am trying to delete some unwanted M$ files i.e. Netmeeting, but every time i do this after about 10 secs they reappear.I looked on a link provided by LA to the Neowin site where i saw it was allright to ditch these but cant find anywhere why they would keep replacing themselves.
Im not trying to delete the whole folder just the files within.
Any tips or hints to point in the right direction would be lovely.

Go to
%windir%\system32\dllcache\
and delete:
callcont.dll
cb32.exe
conf.exe
confmrsl.dll
dcap32.dll
h323cc.dll
mst120.dll
mst123.dll
nac.dll
nmas.dll
nmasnt.dll
nmchat.dll
nmcom.dll
nmft.dll
nmoldwb.dll
nmwb.dll
rrcm.dll
wb32.exe
Windows will now be unable to restore the files. If you're prompted to insert the installation CD for Windows XP, don't.

It is annoying but ive still got heaps of stuff to learn before i give nlite a go.Trouble is the boat is sooo overcrowded with s**t it stinks. You should be able to choose what services you want from the official cd not have them forced upon you!
Cheers Matty(allready taken as forum name and i didn`t want to be Matty1376)
ps why have you and Ragwing ceased to be Mods, have you just done it for a laugh?(no need to answer

If Microsoft listened to you they wouldn't be known as M$ (emphasis on the dollar sign bling bling or cha-ching!).

For sh_ts and giggles. We over-used our powers to the point that we destroyed ourselves.
