Boy, Exact Image and Drive Copy sure do remind me of some old products by PowerQuest (I think that's the right name).  I think theirs were named Drive Copy and Drive Image (not 100% sure tho).  Capabilities of what the apps do seems to be pretty much the same, tho.  They were bought out by Symantec, tho, and run over by the Ghost.

I shall grab these posthast.  Hopefully I don't miss Exact Image's deadline, by the time I get home.  That would be  Cry

TNX for the great links, guys!   Clapping

Little Mac, Paragon Exact Image is great, Drive copy >humbug. It won't recognize the back up. Last night my pc crashed "again" and I fumbled around trying to get drive image to work, it said it did and when I rebooted it said "NO OS" found. Nice huh? So I used my Paragon disk for Exact Image and it restored from the capsule to a fresh install that I backed up with Paragon, 10 minutes flat, all my updates, programs etc....IT's AWESOME. Just a bit of info for you. BUT you should make a floppy\cd\or dvd to run off if the PC crashes, saved my hide!

TNX, Paul, I appreciate the note.  Looks like Exact Image does more anyway; that "capsule" thing is cool.  And yes, a bootable is necessary!  I started doing that when a virus flamed me and made me mad.  I ended up having to reformat, fdisk, and start all over, doing updates over 28K modem.  Megs and megs.  Ugh!   Angry  (obviously this was years ago...).  So I started imaging the drive at known clean points on a regular basis to avoid all of that junk.  I figured I might have to reload some, but not all updates and whatnot.

The nice thing is the Capsule is only visible to Paragon  Grin I think that's awesome! A great safety feature.

That's the way it was with the PQ app, as well.  It didn't show in the file tree, wasn't detectable by Windows in any way; it's like it didn't exist.  I really liked it.  I see that Paragon says this is for security; PQ said it was to prevent boot conflict from having two full OS on the same computer.

I've been using Paragons disk utilities for around 5 years and have NEVER had a problem. PPM2005 is just like Partition Magic, but quicker and easier.

Man, Paul, ur having a lot of problems here of late.  That's the 2nd mention I know I've seen from you on doing a complete image restoration w/Paragon.  I know the software makes it easy, but that's still stressful to go thru (been there done that didn't get a t-shirt).

Or are you just having fun playing around with the new prog?   Grin

No, lol. This computer has a lot of issues and I can't keep up with them. I just do what I can to keep it going. It's on life support but I don't see me getting another for quite some time.

I dont see the problem. I have all data stored on a second drive, image after any software installs and restore on a regular basis. I've done this for years and this method has saved our collective asses at our internet cafe a dozen times over the past two years. Paragon rocks!

I know it's not free, but you can try it for 30 days. Paul will probably use it about 10 times before the end of the trial... Wink I think it's the same 30 days on both Pro and Home edition.
It can't be any easier to restore your computer. FAST! Shocked
It starts before Windows, so you will always be able to restore your computer no matter what you have done to it. Install a virus, and then restore it with BackOnTrack, and the virus is gone. No trace.
It NEVER touch your files in "My documents".  Smiley It can restore old versions of your documents (jpg, mp3 and so on)
I hate when you can't start your computer, and sometimes you don't even get to the "start in fail safe mod" screen. If you get there, the "start with last working config" won't work every time, nor will "failsafe" do...
Give it a try, and you will use it for the rest of your lives... Grin (I do not work for them...)
