i don't have much installed. 40 apps. and the defragging only took like 10 minutes. that darn optimizing took the longest.

I know.  Optimizing is really just organizing the file placement so that they're closer together with a specific strategy.  Defragging is faster.  The same applies to other defragmenters.

I really don't know much about JKDefrag other than it's portable, light, and one of the best according to web reviews.  I even just stick with the default options because I'm too lazy to figure what the others mean Grin.  try their forum.

JK is ok.
It was one those lil proggies I recommend in the early days.
It's great.
It's configurable.

I just prefer Auslogics DiskDefrag for the moment.
No, I don't get money for saying so.

Both are fine. Just...a bit different.

The REBOL.

I decided to give JKDefrag a try (never judge anything by its appearance). Now it has been running for 7 hours, and it's at 72.81% defrgmenting. It's stuck at my virtual disk for Vista.... Tongue

I don't think it's a problem with the software, I think it's a problem with the file name.
99.1% after 16 hours. Soon my first disk is defragmented! Bounce

I decided that the virtual disk image for Vista was the problem, so I deleted it! Bounce JkDefrag doesn't have any problems with the other files.
It's ugly as hell, but it's free and open source, so I'll keep it.

JKDefrag 3.36 is out with some minor fixes, if you're interested.

JKDefrag v3.36 Changes:
- Reverted back to an old Microsoft Screensaver library. The 2008 compiler has a library that is incompatible with Windows XP ("The procedure entry point ChangeWindowMessageFilter could not be located in the dynamic link library USER32.dll").
- Fixed a problem with extremely long path names
