How to remove annoying Java plugin?
« on: May 30, 2009, 06:12:54 PM »
I just updated to Java 6 Update 14 and it forced installed Java Deployment Toolkit 6.0.140.8 in FF Plugins which can't be uninstalled. Anyone know a way like via registry?

 :)

Don't be afraid, I'm very nice sometimes. And also absent-minded.

Thanks. It worked.  :)

I had to rename the 'npdeploytk.dll' in both locations (in the Sun Java program folder and Mozilla Firefox program folder).

Hi Guys,

.FaZio93., the said file indeed is present here:
C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin
C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\new_plugin
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins

but there is no references in the Registry as a Firefox plugin
Where you can see it in Firefox  as a registered plugin?

Just curious.

I can see MS .Net Framework Assistant (ClickOnce), which is silently installed by Framework 3.5 SP1 (that's known fact), but I cannot find Java Deployment Toolkit in Fox  ??? Am I missing something ?

My regards

It's not in Windows registry, you'll find JDK-plug in FF "Tools -> Add-ons (or Add-on Manager) -> Plugins", you have to inactivate there. It's not necessary to remove or rename corresponding files (they will revert at next update of Java).

Thank you for reply,Thunderbear

I was in the about:config and couldn't find it.
I hit the green button but forgot about the dark blue one...  :)  Now I can see it among FF plugins.
As a matter of fact the NPWPF.DLL (framework stuff) was found in the about : and in the Registry easily .

Cheers!

Don't rule out Microsoft as a problem with Mozilla Firefox.

A recent MS NET update installed through Windows update actually loaded and installed a FF plugin  that cannot be easily removed.  I believe you can disable the plugin.

This NET "feature" opens FF to the browser vulnerabilities where FF can now load software to execute on your computer.  Remember "Active X" is just DLL injection by another name. I have long preferred FF because of Active X and browser add-ins to IE.   For quite some time I simply refused NET functionality but that may not be any longer a practical choice.

I updated to .NET Framework 3.5 a while back. After I saw it had installed the addon I went to System Restore and rolled back the installation. Never going to update to that.
