I don't know your operating system or whether or not you are only using the firewall not the anti-virus feature and presume you are using Avira Antiv-Vir Personal.
I have WinXP SP3 and Comodo firewall only and to get Avira working properly on updates it was necessary to ensure two files were designated as Trusted Applications. They both reside in your Avira program folder and are named  update.exe and avnotify .exe.
Delete your existing entry in Network Security Policy and replace with these two trusted applications.

Hope this helps.

This may not be Comodo. If you are using the free version of Avira then check out the Avara forums at the link below. They have been having problems with Avira automatic updates for months. There is a link there where it explains how to download and install the updates manually. I used Avira for a long time and it was very good but the problems with the updates eventually made me uninstall it and use Comodo AV iinstead. For me personally I now think that Comodo AV is just as good as Avira.javascript:void(0);

Hi",)

Try deleting all you see at
FIREWALL [Network Security Policy] as well as in the DEFENSE+ [Network Security Policy] after deleting it all, swith to TRAINING MODE both Firewall and Defense+ then update your Avira. If Updates succeed, you can now switch back to your previous settings and soft reset your PC buy restarting.

avira free personal edition is better.
i could tell a lot of arguments. but its your decision.
i switched a few times to comodo antivirus. but very fast i was back.

false positives, few settings, archives are not scanned automatic, "defense is the first line",....

i ask you, why should i not use TWO good programs, but a single program which makes priorities? theres no reason!
as avira and comodo firewall are working good together, and as they are both good programs, i dont want to use a "third line antivirus" of a suite. i dont like the "line" philosophy, when its an argument for skill reducing of a part.

for me CIS [Comodo AV alone] is the best. I followed Comodo for a couple of years I found out that CIS is The Best ever Layered Protection I ever had... well AVIRA and AVAST is also good but... It slows down my Internet browsing and speed as well as Pc booting performance [proven by my Co-Pc Technician] If I were you, install CIS for a better layered protection.

you have more ram than i. i didnt noticed any speed increasing with cis antivirus.
comodo antivirus as a standalone is a very bad idea. it is made to be third line of defense. it isnt made to protect you as a standalone.
the worst thing is, when you have a virus on your drive, and its in an archive, comodo will not tell you, that its there. until you unpack it.
i dont want a virus in any form on my pc. and even if you have the full suite, maybe you are protected by these 3 layers. but if you never unpack that archive, and one day you send it to your friend (as part of something), you spreaded a virus and you stored it until that day.

i use two well proven programs. both have their own special abilities. so i have 3 first lines of defense! comodo firewall, defense and the avira antivirus free personal edition.
when i tested comodo antivirus sometimes, i was very careful. and many times i thought, hell, an unexperienced user would have made a fatal mistake in this situation. deleted something wrong, because comodo told to, or stored a virus.

the best in this combination is btw: you can block the avira avnotify.exe. then you dont have a pop up while update Wink

I didn't say CIS Boost PC performance I said AVIRA or AVAST "SLOWS DOWN MY [OUR] PC PERFORMANCE and INTERNET SPEED" I used CIS for a MATCHED Layered Protection and for US, using a Different  Brand of anti-malware is running a Car with FERRARI Engine with a MERCEDES-BENZ Transmission and a BMW Gear Box. so which is Best, a MATCHED Leyered Protection, or a Assembled Layered Protection?

ok, i make it more clear: as i switched from avira to comodo antivirus for tests, i didnt noticed any difference in speed. since i use(d) avira all the other time, this would have been a moment that i could see a difference. i didnt.

and to the other point: security programs are no cars. if there are two very good products, you can combine them. for comodo and avira i can say: its pretty harmonic running.
both programs are standalones in their area. avira has something to lose when their product fails, so they dont care if the customers have a defense+. they just make their product best as a standalone.

comodo always says: antivirus is last line of defense. this is not a definition of a standalone able program.

i am not sure why an antivirus program should slower the internet anyway.

When we troubleshot 2G and 3G CELL SITES, we turned-off AVIRA or AVAST because our Software in laptops takes time to access the equipment that's why I share CIS and we found out that it works light specially on a Single Core Processor with a minimum ram. Well AVIRA is my second choice.

i dont know why comodo doesnt do that "problem" in that moment, but you could make exceptions for your scenario in avira.
i was talking about avira personal edition. in business it isnt used anyway, because its for personal use only.
what exactly is "disabled" in comodo, which makes the job for you faster?
thats an interesting question....

"except the following Process/Folder". thats a setting in avira.

We don't have to disable any of the CIS feature to access the modules of Cell Sites that we troubleshot, we simple installed CIS-AV alone with DEF+ [DEF+ is OFF during Access of the Cell Site Module and TURNED-ON if we Set our IP to OBTAIN to connect the Internet]
