This problem does seem to be confined to this particular build. So reverting to the previous version, which was on the whole very stable and unticking search for updates, would appear to be the easiest option, then look out for the next update and try again. The fact that this issue appears to be internal, due to the wide variance would make this advisable IMO.  Grin

Could you tell what browser do you use, and does this problem occurs only with browser or with other applications using the Internet too (IM's, e-mail clients e.t.c)

I am using Mozilla Firefox. I also tried to use Internet Explorer, but with the same result. When I was conntected to the internet and had not launched any application (I mean browser, IM, e-mail client), after several minutes cmdagent.exe used 100% CPU. My antivirus ESET NOD 32 and SpySweeper were running (in previous version they did not conflict with CFP).

After your college's advice I tried to uninstall SpySweeper and disable antivirus, but it did not help. In Defence+ and Firewall logs was nothing recorded, what could cause this problem.

But yesterday I tried to install version 3.5.54375.427 of CIS and so far it works perfectly (also with Spysweeper, Nod Antivirus, browser and IM). What do you think about it?

As I said earlier - It looks like was problem (in my case) with CFP 3.5.54375.427 (Firewall - SafeMode, D+  - CleanPCMode + NOD32 2.7.39 (with checked scaning of POP3) + old version of The Bat (e-mail agent).
After upgrade The Bat to latest version problem with cmdagent.exe gone away. Now it works fine for the whole day (with shutdown for the night)
So, I think, that was a problem exactly with sacning POP3 for viruses in NOD32 and checking-mail-routine in old The Bat.

For me, the only way to play AoE3 is to set the firewall and D+ to 'disabled'. Then, I press ctr-alt-del and kill the process 'cmdagent.exe'. (Only possible if firewall is disabled?) So, the suggestion to nail down the problem to a certain part of CIS is not possible for me.

Other people upgrade their software and the problem went away. I'm running the latest AoE3 Asian Dynasties version and the latest CIS (427), and the problem persists. So, that also no option for me.

Currently, I've disabled automatic startup and have disabled the Comodo service in WinXP's service manager. After my computer starts up I open Comodo manually. It's worked so far, but Comodo has in red text that "COMODO Application Agent is not running!" but I still get pop-up notifications from both the firewall and Defense +.

Weird. Huh

I think that's because the service is the actual firewall. You are only starting the GUI. Without the service, no firewall is active and thus you get a warning. Maybe your block rules do not function at all at the moment?

I have been a long timer user of ZASS and decided to try CIS.  Received a new system last week and installed CIS 3.5.54375.427.  Since then I have installed many apps to get the system up to speed to replace an existing machine.  Until last night there have been no problems.  I installed a Logitech Pro 9000 web cam, software and hardware.  Good so far.  The app downloaded an update from Logitech and applied that.  It requested a restart.  Rebooted and logged in.  Took about 20 seconds before the machine hung.  Or so I thougn.  Did a hard reset, rebooted and logged in.  This time it took 30 to 40 seconds before hanging.  I determined that the CPU was saturated, and using Task Manager determined the offender was cmdagent.exe.  I googled the program and tried one the suggestions that I found.  Rebooted to safe mode and disabled D+.  Rebooted again and the problem disappeared.  There are not entries in the D+ event log.  OS is Windows XP SP3 x32.  Attached is a CIS_Report.

I find it interesting that the CPU usage issue being described here and attributed to cmdagent.exe is posted here under Firewall bugs because the CIS firewall process is cfp.exe. The cmdagent.exe process is related to the antivirus part of the program.

I am running CIS, the latest version 3.5.54375.427 on a Vista Ultimate machine that has CIS (firewall, antivirus, and Defense +), CMF, BOClean, SpywareBlaster, and Malwarebytes AntiMalware on it.

I use the Firefox browser almost exclusively, except for occasionally using Minefield. I have a broadband always-on connection. I am not running any games or WindowBlinds on my computer.

I have experienced near 100% usage on one core of a Core 2 Duo E6600 Intel dual-core processor ever since CIS was in Beta. I have 4MGb of RAM. Between the 2 cores of the processor, there is at least 50% usage nearly all the time. I don't know how people are able to tell that the cmdagent.exe service is causing this, or how to measure exactly how much CPU usage one particular process is using. Task Manager Processes shows the amount of memory being used, but has nothing to do with % of CPU usage. I experience a short time after bootup when both cores of the processor are usually down below 5% usage, but this only lasts for a few seconds. I have always just assumed that this CPU usage pattern was normal, because that is the way it has been for me using the CIS program through Betas on into the final release versions on my Vista machines. Very rarely, both cores will go to 100% usage and stay there, requiring a reboot to alleviate the situation, but I am not able to attribute it to any one specific thing. Should the CPU usage be a much lower percentage on the one core that pegs between 90% and 100% usage all the time?

cmdagent takes 100% if I start Age of Empires 3 asian dynasties ( age3y.exe). No prob with age of empire 3
(age3.exe)

start age of empire 3 : asian dynasties cmdagent.exe take all my cpu

CIS (without AV) 3.5.54375.427 X32

my solution :
 disable firewall
quit cis
kill cmdagent.exe
replace the cmdagent.exe with version 3.0.24.368
restart cmdagent service again
restart cis
enable firewall

than start aoe3 asian dynasties . tadaa problem solve  Bounce

On my system cmdagent is pretty active on boot and after boot (not to 100%). With Vista perfmon (which is wonderfully extended) I saw cmdagent going over all sorts of files and folders. Something is dragging cmdagent along.

I tried disabling some services to see if they matter. It looks like that Readyboost is one of the bigger causes on my system. Searchindexer, that starts on boot, may be the other.

It's just an observation.

I don't have any solution here, but wanted to share my personal observations.  I had CFP installed on two desktops and one laptop (all started with CFP 3.0 about a month ago).  Suddenly the laptop started dragging with this cmdagent sucking up all the CPU.  The problem is BAD!  the computer becomes virtually unusable unless you don't mind waiting minutes between screen changes.  Frankly, it was so bad that as a fairly new user of CFP, I was ready to just chuck it all and start badmouthing the product to everyone.  I had already shut off CFP and did the uninstall when I decided to maybe give it one last try if there was a newer release available.

I was running just the firewall, originally installed with version 3.0.  Unfortunately I do not recall if I allowed it to update to 3.5 before the CPU problem started. I found that CIS had just been made available, so I downloaded that and reinstalled it on the laptop.  The only other change was that I disabled my AVG 8.0 because CIS included AV capability.  So far, the laptop is running perfectly with no CPU hog problems.  Maybe it was the AVG causing it, maybe not.  At this point, I really don't know, but I am still somewhat worried about using this product.

This problem REALLY needs to be identified and clearly documented or it is going to cost Comodo lots of good will and lost customers!

You might as well just install 3.0.24.378 version instead. in fact it will be even more safer, as using different version parts could cause unpredictable problems.

CIS firewall process is cfp.exe. The cmdagent.exe process is related to the antivirus part of the program.

That's not right, cmdagent is the acting part of all three features (Firewall, Defense+ and Anti-virus). cfp.exe is interface application of CIS(CFP)

Back in the CIS 3.5 Beta Questions and Answers, Schwartr asked the question "Is there a .exe file for updating the AV component of CIS. There is one for CIS itself, but I do not see one for the AV like in CAVS2.

When you open up CIS and select the "antivirus" tab and choose "update virus database" where is the exe that it uses located? (or program)."

Eduardo answered "Yes, there is. It's cmdagente.exe."

That is why I said that cmdagent.exe was associated with the antivirus part of the CIS program. The discussion between those two individuals indicated that cfp.exe was the file for updating the CIS program itself and cmdagent.exe was the file for updating the CIS virus database. But that may be only partially correct, based on your statement.

 Thinking
I have discovered something very interesting. I am running Vista Ultimate on an Intel E6600 dual-core processor machine with 4GHz of RAM. I was running CIS, CMF, BOClean, SpywareBlaster, and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. I was experiencing this near-100% CPU usage on core 1 of the dual-core processor. I looked at the Vista Performance Monitor and found a process called mcbuilder.exe that was using just under 50% of my CPU resources constantly. Performance Monitor describes it as a resource cache builder. Every other process was using 1% or less. I searched on the Internet for any information about this file. I found someone who had this high CPU usage problem and they uninstalled Comodo Memory Firewall, which solved their problem. So I uninstalled CMF and found that after reboot my CPU usage went down considerably on the one core that had been stuck at close to 100% usage.

After uninstalling CMF, the Vista Performance Monitor doesn't even show a process named mcbuilder.exe as running. Apparently mcbuilder.exe only ran when CMF was installed, so it must be associated with that program. I don't know how many people on this thread topic are running Comodo Memory Firewall, but uninstalling that program seems to have solved my constant 50%+ CPU usage. If and when Comodo integrates CMF into CIS, they need to solve this problem with the mcbuilder.exe process using so much of the CPU resources.
