Thunderbird rules/Network Security Policy for Comodo CIS 4.***

I am on a clean XP Pro SP2 system with Thunderbird Version 2.0.0.23 (20090812) and Comodo CIS 4 using the firewall and sandbox but not the anti-virus part of it. That is use Avira

Thunderbird works fine for sending and receiving emails including big attachments. However I also read RSS feeds with it and have web-content being displayed inside Thunderbird. When I set the Network Security Policy for Thunderbird as Email Client I keep being asked to allow outgoing connections from thunderbird.exe. What additional rules can I set so that Thunderbird is being treated as an Email Client but also allows me to read RSS feeds and display other web-content inside it please?

All the outgoing request are over port 80, the internet port, so I guess this is not too hard to do but as I am a newbie considering network protocols I would not exactly be sure what rules to set. Perhaps a knowledgeable member can help me out here? I searched the forum for "thunderbird" and "thunderbird rules" but did not find what I am looking for, what is a but strange as I used to find those Thunderbird rules here pretty easy. Perhaps someone can point me in the right direction, thanks.

Try this:
1: 'Firewall -> Advanced -> Predefined Firewall Policies'.

2: Double click on 'Email Client' and click Add and there:

  Action = Allow
  Protocol = TCP
  Direction = Out
  Description = (as you want)
 
  Source Address = Any
  Destination Address = Any
  Source Port = Any
  Destination Port = 80
 
3: And click Apply and so on...

4: If you are lucky, this might work 

You could also add port 443 in same way as above so TB could update add-ons and themes if you use such.

I applied the two rules for port 80 and port 443 and it works!

I can read RSS Feeds and update Add-ons, just tried it and it works!

Nice to hear that it works, now I can sleep well.

As an addendum, port 443 (HTTPS) is also used in those rare cases when one has to log on on emailserver when SSL is used.
