Protected & Armoured. COMODO is here!

« Reply #285 on: July 09, 2009, 12:31:16 AM »

Updated from 509 to 531 (not a clean install) and everything seems working fine as before.
After reading most of all posts here, I have nothing else to add, just a sugestion to "beta-test" or "pre-test" (or whatever you can call) for every release with changes and add-ons... As we can see, this 531 have many changes (since 3.9..509)

Nice work, ppl.    Thumb Up

THANKS.      Clapping

I think COMODO skipped a beta because most changes from .509 to .531 were just bug fixes and improvements. The only major features added were Secure DNS and COMODO HopSurf Toolbar, which aren't really "part" of CIS.

Modbreak

I split off the heated debate with v941726 to its own topic Does Comodo have too many pop ups? as this thread went off topic. The discussion may continue there.

I split off another couple of posts to the new topic. For anybody who wants to discuss this topic please continue in the other thread.

V941726, I'm not sure what you mean by this or why you're citing norton's post. All your posts have been moved (please see above).

I would like to suggest to Norton to open a topic in one of the help boards and see what is happening. When needed that topic will be moved to one of the bug boards when I think we may have bumped into a bug.

Just for curiosity: Is the bug of collapsing network speed after running P2P apps for a long time fixed?

If you are referring to DPC Latency, this should be resolved in a future release.

I hope you can fix that problem soon, I get this after 12-24h uptime of my rig:

after 24h+ the hole graphic is red and no more green lines...Computer no more usable, restart necessary.

At first I thougt this is an sound card problem because as soon as the latency goes high, my sound card starts with extreme clackling and popping, even swapping rear and front channels randomly. The system sometimes even freezes completely when closing firefox or the bat for 5-15seconds.

I run utorrent 1.8.3 24/7 on Vista x64 and I think this is the problem with p2p use you spoke about.
Please fix it.

Straight from the horse's mouth (the head developer):
Hi Guys,

I think i need to say the final word about this DPC issue:  3.10 is a simple update and this issue has NOT been reported as fixed. The issue is related to Windows Vista and solution involves a lot of changes.
IF we switch to using the OLD technology you will not see this issue for sure but lose your network throughtput etc.

We are working on the issue and will update Firewall when it is done. This is not just a typo in the GUI. It is a complex issue related to the changes introduced with the new networking of Windows Vista. As I said before, in this version, you may or may not notice improvements but thats it. You will still observe the issue if you use MULTIPLE connection making systems such as WEB servers, FTP servers, TORERENT clients with significant traffic for a long time.

We are working on this issue so please follow the release notes of releases in the future to see if it is fixed or not.

I don't see anyone else reporting my problem, so here goes.

I am running 3.9.95478.509 with no incidents, conflicts or problems of any kind. XP Pro SP3.

When I said yes to the Updater prompt, it certainly appeared to update normally and presented the restart request. I gave it a yes and the reboot went forward.

Unfortunately I then found myself in a reboot loop, with the system restarting every time it tried to load windows.

I have had the exact same problem, Winxp Pro SP2 with all windowsupdates, using just the firewall part, 2 months old installation. Although the updater said the update was succesful (from 509 to 531 directly), subsequent reboots all failed on/after the black screen with windows logo and reboots were triggered. Only removing Comodo from autostart (in Safe mode) solved the problem. When starting Comodo manually, it warned me about available updates, but the About page said it was already 531. Never mind, I have removed it and I have done a clean install of 531, but the system kept crashing all the same as long as Comodo was in the autostart list.

I consider this to be a major problem. I still want to say thank you for an otherwise great software which I have used for maybe a year. My suggestions (excuse me not going to the appropriate topics, I have just registered to report this), other than testing a bit more before rolling out updates Cool, would be a cleaner interface to overview the rules, and the ability to customize a new rule (ports etc) right from the popup window.

I've seen quite a few reports such as this, but they are all with XP and either SP2 or SP3.  An XP issue perhaps?  (I use Vista)

I think you should update XP to SP3. I never understand why people have not done that. It has gone flawlessly on every system I've seen and XP runs faster and smoother afterwards.

I can only speak for myself. Probably the same reasons some major companies do not upgrade (to SP3, yet alone Vista). SP2 is well tested and known. All the security fixes and essential features (for me) are available. I have a good SP2 integrated install disk. I have better things to do than to experiment with it.

Everything else (software & hardware) works fine and it is unlikely for some time that a software I use will go and require SP3 (i don't fix something that ain't broken). Certainly not Comodo, because gcaleval had the same problem with SP3. Which makes this a bit off topic. Smiley

i installed for the first time the comodo AV on my xp system and i have to say i got many false positive,
so i decided to uninstall the AV and i continue using comodo like before : the FW in custom police mode and Defense+ with max protections.
exemple of false positive : the app HFS wich is HTTP file server or the installer of super ad blocker.
both apps were dled on HFS and SuperAdBlocker site.
when the AV scanned the system it found more than 500 malwares, some were reals as i keep some leaktest tools or malwares i found on the web, but there was too many false positive.

I slipstreamed SP3 on a new cd as soon the SP3 was released.

It is better to slipstream rather than install SP3 because there will be less troubles.
