-I think "Submit suspected files" option is unnecessary, we can send files from quarantine too. If you think a file is suspected, add it into quarantine, and send it from there. But the e-mail and description part should be integrated into "send file from quarantine" option.

-I think the "Print Virus List" button in the Virus List window is also unnecessary, there are so many items on the list that it would be paper wastage to print the whole list.

-Ability to choose from an action (clean, delete, rename, move to quarentine, leave, etc.) when virus is found.

-Use UPX packer for compressing executables.  Wink Grin

I don't know if this fits the code structure for CAVS, but how about a program that develops a white list of installed software for each user's system.  It could refer to the database that CFP is developing and identify and submit unknown files.  A scan could compare known safe file signatures to the ones on the computer for elimination of the known files from consideration and then process unknowns by first, the usual virus scan, then a heuristic analysis and finally a user input with the results of the first two to guide the choice.  It should be faster to compare a file with the recorded signature for that file rather than with a database of hundreds of thousands of signatures of malware.  Possibly, an uninstaller-like record of changes made by new installs would be a useful addition as well?  It would allow most of the changes made by malware to be undone.  A 60 day life-span for such records would reduce clutter.

I like your line of thinking, where the AV uses part of the firewall componentry.

They are doing this with CAVS3 where it will share the HIPS component, so I wouldn't be surprised to see the AV share the whitelist checksums from the firewall.

So would this mean CAV would not work/ be suitable unless it was installed alongside a version of CFP3?Huh

I've asked this same question myself and have been told that CAVS3 will have its own HIPS and definitions, but will co-operatively use the firewalls ones if they are detected during installation adn the user selects that option, otherwise it will use its libraries.

Co-operative use is the better option in terms of resource usage, but they will always cater for the user that only wants to use one of hteir products in isolation.

Hope this helps,
Ewen :-)

I'm dreaming that one day CAVS can provide its users the ability to have a boot scan like avast.

PS: Extremely Advanced detection will not hurt.

I think CAVS has great potential (and as a freebie it's hard to beat) but, to be taken seriously as an all round antivirus solution it has to have real time HTTP scanning, i.e. it has to be able to scan the web pages as you browse. The other Antivirus packages I use, Bitdefender and kaspersky, both do this.

I like to see it do a more comprehensive scan. Comodo on my PC scanned like 120k files, while Avast on standard scanned 500k just with a regular scan, and on Through it scanned a little over a million.

I like the idea of 3 scanning modes.

Fast-Normal-Through ... Perhaps, like Avast.

support windows 98, ME!

I'm pretty sure that Win98 and WinME support will never eventuate. Certainly not for any future versions.

My wish for CAVS are: low memory resource consumption, fast scanning & updates, high detection rates for unknown viruses, real-time scanning for files when accessed & prevents access in case those files are infected..
