Avira really gets busy when it comes to protecting your computer, I tried threat fire but didn't like it.

Personally,
ANY AV that can't hit at least 90%, isn't really worth much.

Definitely hoping the next version of this thing is better than this version. Can't believe it ranks even worse than Clamwin!!

Really can't believe the new version isn't out yet, if they are FOCUSING on it's developement?! Doesn't really appear to be much focusing going on around here. Can't even get a fairly recent update as to what that status is now.

I would like to mention something I asked Melih when he gave us Mods CIS Today.

Q:
Quote from: 3xist

Basically the only thing you need to work on is Detection of malware Melih (Am I right?)... Because you already built a Great AV just need those definition #s to go up! :-)

A:
Quote from: Melih
2 things
Detection
and the speed of sig dissemeniation.

Both infrastructures are almost there...

For the detection, the engine will receive some very important features hopefully within number of weeks (that will pretty much handle any packed/encrypted virus).

And the speed if sig is being handled by an amazing infrastructure we setup (that includes CAMAS) and 24/7/365 AV labs we have setup around the world! Now, don't hold me to it but i want to achieve the sig creation within 1 hour of us being given a malware (or potential malware)!

So if you give me a potentially malicious file now, you should in theory see it as a sig in your AV within the hour! This is unheard of in the industry! But then again, nothing i am doing could be considered standard Smiley So that is what I am trying to achieve!

And we will detect, at some stage, more than others cos we will have more files being submitted to us than other AVs cos we will have more users than them due to free nature of our product! Plus we will be putting a similar technology to CAMAS into CIS to identify a lot of suspicious files so that users can send them to us. Also don't forget we have a site inspection technology that will scan sites and catch stuff there too. So I think its fair to say that we will be the company who will have more malware in our db than anyone else (live malware.. not from 1980s etc).

Yes, today i played with our Site Inspection technology.. and fallen in love!!!!  Love

Melih

another avira + comodo user here eagerly awaiting cav3's release (and third-party tests).

btw, while avira is a great virus scanner (current best all-around, by my standards, hence my use of it), they didn't start out on top. Check out the second graph on this thread on the av-comparatives forum. it shows how far avira came in a relatively short amount of time. as melih and the crew have lots of drive and talent, i hope and even expect that the one-year mark will see cav3 place them firmly in the top 5.

i'm also hoping that in that time, testers will figure out that there's more than just detection when it comes to defeating malware. secunia got a lot of flack for their recent test av test using exploits vice viruses (see here), but i like this type of approach to testing, even if it wasn't carried out properly. i'd love to see all kinds of bad stuff thrown at suites to see how secure they really make the end user. that's one test in which comodo would certainly excel, esp. if cav3 meets our expectations Cheesy

thanks, kyle, for pointing that out. what i meant to say was cav3 release and subsequent tests by major av testers (updated post to reflect this). while i know not everyone goes for third party av testers, i like what i've seen from av-comparatives and a few others. it doesn't give a full story, but it gives the part that i can't test myself, i.e. detection rates. i know how strong d+ is, but i also want my second line of defense to be top pick.

You're welcome Smiley

For sure, Melih has avery high standards and will not settle for anything less than the best.
When detections raise cavs will be placed in tests.
