I am sorry but I find CPF3 totally unusable.  Sad

I have a small computer network and am unable to keep internet access for the client computer for more than a few minutes. Only a complete uninstall re install on the host computer will restore access and that then crashes shortly thereafter. CPF3 works well on the host computer, but totally fails for the client computer. Right now, the only way to get me any internet access to post this is to disable the host computer firewall totally. And I also note CPF2.4 had none of these problems.

The SP2 firewall is disabled, all previous HIPS is disabled, and all setting are basically defaults. OS is XP home on host and XP pro on client.

Osage have you tried like Coolio10 suggested here when asked about ICS?

When the new network alert comes up, tick the checkbox to allow sharing the connection.

I haven't installed the final yet but I do use ICS so I hope it works. If not I'm sure someone can come up with a rule.

In a word yes, I did tick the check box on both the host and client computer as Coolio suggested.

In the way of additional information, the host computer DNS is 192.168.0.1 and I think the sub net is 255.255.255.0, and the client computer has a static dns set at 192.168.0.194 with a subnet of
255.255.255.0. In trial by error playing around, at least adding that to network rules gets my web browsers working on the client computer without shutting the host firewall down, but all bookmarks in the browsers including google fail to work as they time out in the client computer. And those settings are all in with no out.

To Melih and the crew, another job well done. This is the best FW on the market with a small mem usage, about 7.5 meg. Once the AV is as good as the FW this will be the best suite thats out there. I currently use NOD32 but am more than anxious to try CAVS. Once again congradulations on your work and to all the other guys who helped develop this FW, many thanks.

It's running like a dream for me.  Bounce
No issues whatsoever on my laptop with Centrino 1.7 Ghz, 1 mb RAM, XP Home , BOClean and AVAST!
Some folk will have issues and those, by and large, are the users from whom we will hear. That's what these forums are for. Constructive criticism will always be welcome, I'm sure.
I am a member of several fora, not connected with computing and I have posted the news about V3 on all of them, with a link to the download page and this forum.
Thanks are due to Melih and the team.
Ay oop, it's grand, lads & lasses!

 Cheers

Great job, indeed! The automatic update from RC1 to final went absolutely smoothly - even in my limited user account (a restart was necessary, of course).

BTW: Another posting here mentioned mem usage of 7.5 MB. On my computer, Process Explorer says that cfp.exe has a usage of 17284 K Private Bytes ...?

Superb firewall. I thought 2.4 was excellent (and do), but this one is smoooth. I have it in training mode, and started (in turn) running each application on the pc. It seemed to just get on with the job of learning, with popups for unknown applications. Also using Avast!, SpywareTerminator, and Secunia's PSI inspector. They play together well, it seems.
I particularly like the white shield icon.
Thanks for this software, impressed again.

Oh that is what you havent seen in the BETA or RC versions Smiley
While trying to improve our security considerations section in order to give a better advice to our users, we came up with a heuristic analysis algorithm which detected 60% of the malware samples we threw at it.

For example, as of 11/11/2007,  the following virus was an unknown one.  Please have a look at he attachment for an example alert and how CFP detected it without any signature database Smiley

Egemen

Wouldn't it be logical to include a "Submit" option in this alert, rather than forcing the user to have to go somewhere else in the app to submit it?

Any more rabbits in the hat, Egemen? Again, simply brilliant, guys!

Installed v3 now, everything's running fine. Lots of new stuff to conquer ;-) Thanks a lot.

BTW, I found the wording "Allow all" in CFP2.4 more intuitive than "Disabled" when clicking the tray icon and choosing firewall settings. It would also be more consistent with the "Block all" that is still found in v3.

Again, simply by far & away the best firewall, thanks to the dev team & beta testers for all
the hard work & feedback leading up to this final V3, it's running perfectly on my machine.
