Hi razor74,
What is "functionnal" Vista in a first place?  Laugh
And it is me who should learn to use a computer...  Kewl

and probably according to jeremy.monpantalon we all must learn too...
Well, I do not know when I wrote that, but since it seems I'm not as clever as all of you, that must be normal too.

Please check your spelling. English is not my first language but I learn fast:

f*ction !!! f*ctionnal !!!... that's how

Panic, what's "Meh!" ?  Smiler
Well, it is not my native language either, so that must explain why I didn't understood this. Moreover, after having spent so much time trying to have my computer behave properly after having updated comodo firewall, I had no more time for spell-checking.

Hi jeremy.monpantalon,

what antivirus and anti-malware software do you use?

Did you switch off antivirus on-access scanning during install of the firewall update?

I have seen many posts from people who had no problems with the update on Vista and I also had no problems with the update: I use Vista Home Premium. I did turn off on access scanning for my antivirus (Avast) whilst the update was installing and I have UAC turned off. I also have the pc set to run Comodo files as administrator. Perhaps if you post what other software you are using we might be able to figure out what went wrong.

 Smiler

Hi N.T.T.W. (! Smiley ),

I had the online scanners disabled before updating, and had to launch the updater after a fresh reboot to have it work (but that was not important since I knew it was a possibility and the update went smoothly).

For the confs :
- computer 1 : vista business with forefront (Sad company's computer)
- computer 2  : vista pro with avast free and windows defender
- computer 3 : vista pro with avast free and spyware terminator
All were configured with train with safe mode / clean pc, and to not allow unknown execution before fw running, and were running perfectly before the update.

I tried the update only on computer 1. At that time, I had read that you changed the policy for rundll32.exe, but didn't read the sentence warning users of the 100s of "allow and remember" that I would have to do after the first reboot...
Many of theses alerts were duplicated, but I suppose it was because of different parent processes using rundll32 to run the same dll. But I was in learn mode and all theses dll had been previously acknowledged by comodo fw.

I then tried on the 3 computers the uninstall then reinstall method. Working in software dev - even if it seems not enough to use your products according to some members here -, I wanted to test on all 3 to be sure that it was not a config pb on a particular computer. Moreover, being previously a great fan of your fw, I WANTED TO USE IT AND TRY TO FIGURE WHAT THE PB WAS.

On all 3 configs I got a black screen after the login, always because explorer was not launched ! By the way, I didn't had the "rundll32 confirmation popups in this case - but I wonder why you allowed the program update if it lead to such a painful issue... The firewall works OK without the defense+ block till lauch, but that does not seem a proper config to me.

This explains - if not totally excuse, I can conceed that Sad - my previous rant : I really did try, got many pbs, and I do not want to use a fw that do not block everything till its launch (even the old sygate firewall did have this option) since it appears to me as a major hole (especially since I use free AV on my personnal computers, or M$ worst one on my work one).

Now I lost confidence in your test procedure, and will have to replace your product on every computer of friends, family, ... I made them install, since they have not my technical background (? tbd ?) and I do not want to loose my time in correcting pbs on their computers...

PS : during the redaction of this post, a friend of mine whom I recommended your firewall did call me : he got EXACTLY the same black screen / explorer not launched as I got on my 3 computers after having set the "block until launch" option...
PS2 : I did not spell-check this post Wink

I am another one that this has happened to.  It took me over an hour to finally remove the firewall just to be able to use my computer again.  I will not re-install until I know the system has been Vista certified to function error- (and bug-) free.
This release is a major disaster for your firewall and its reputation.  Much further testing needs to be done before the next release if anything is to be salvaged from this mess.

Vista Home Premium x64 - I could not udate, so I made a clean install of the new version. It works OK, but no scan available, this feature does not work.  Sad

I love this version of the COMODO Firewall Pro!   Love  I just wish this version was able to schedule scans of the PC at regular intervals.

maybe it's better to uninstall the old version instead of updating and install the full new release.

Works OK for me on
(1)XP-SP2, with AVG & that's it.
(2) XP-SP2, AVG & BOClean.

Both of them upgraded via update (i.e. not clean installs)

Except! on system 2, there is a scanning issue. This PC is dual boot XP/Kubuntu. The scan hits the rocks when it reaches linux stuff on the disc. It just halts, using up loads of CPU and has to be terminated via task-manager. I guess if I could set which discs /parts of discs are to be scanned I could avoid the problem. Perhaps this feature will appear in a future release.

Cheers
