What is the error. The update issue is a simple permissions issue. Sounds like you have another problem. I am happy to assist if i can. To fix the update problem follow the simple steps or remove passwords.
Importent do not stop and restart services.

Hi Can you please follow the steps below and review the service state as outlined in steps
1 go to start Control Panel
2. Go to Administration Tools
3. Find services
4. Find COMODO Internet Security Helper Services
5. go to the Log on tab and set your account name and password.
6. Restart you computer.
Follow steps
1 through 4 and review status of service should be set to automatic with your logon username.
go to step 5. and move along to the RECOVERY tab and set first failure to restart service.
Restart computer
Caution do not run the comodo Diagnostics as this will return the settings back to standard and you will have to change the services again.
Hope this works for you
You will not get this issue if you remove windows admin password .

I believe the update bug is intermittent.  CIS was updating fine since the 3.5.55810.432 release but during the Thanksgiving holiday (four days) it did not update at all.  The PC was left running and logged in.  I tried to manually update it when I arrived this morning but it would not.  The virus definitions were 619.  I rebooted the PC and have been able to update CIS to 662.

Hi Guys

I have tried the suggested various fixes, but none have worked.
1. changing the services.
2. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, which works great for one day, and the following it just comes up with the same error "Failed to update the virus database. Please check your internet connection and try again later".
3. Switching of the firewall
4. Switched of the UAC
5. Created a second admin account

my current product version is 3.5.55810.432
virus signature version: 657

Im am using OEM version of windows vista on 32bit machine.

Anyhelp or update would be great

thanks in advance.

The CIS 3.5.56968.437 doesn't have a change log yet, but this program update did not fix the virus definition update issue. I changed the CIS Helper Service back to Local System Account after installing this CIS update, and after rebooting, CIS still fails to manually update virus definitions. It gives the all-too-familiar "Failed to update the virus signature database. Please check your Internet connection and try again later" message. Hopefully this will be addressed in the NEXT program version update. Not being able to update the virus signature database is an important security issue. Not everyone is able to get the proposed workarounds to work.

Every problem everyone is facing here in this thread im facing. I try manually to update with the "update definitions tab" to update it but it gives me a following error "Failed to update virus signature database. Please check you internet connection and try again later." I ran the Diagnostics tool as well to see if something was wrong with the program was wrong with itself but I get nothing. Im using Windows Vista by the way.

Edit: Problem Fixed. I followed this, "ok now it works when i have edited the registry key UpdateURL with http://downloads.comodo.com/ and changed to use my account and restart service on failure."

what's the exact registry key?  i searched my reg for a update url for comodo and found nothing.

my 324 which i downgraded to last week solved the problem, but it's now updated to the latest version and i'm back to square one - won't update.

i did the comodo helper service to run as my username/administrator no pw.  rebooted > tried again.  gave me an x### error and said i didn't have enough resources to complete the process.  i may not have done it right though.

event viewer gives me this error:

The COMODO Internet Security Helper Service service is marked as an interactive service.  However, the system is configured to not allow interactive services.  This service may not function properly.

The COMODO Internet Security Helper Service service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not start due to a logon failure.

any word on tshooting the problem from the programmers?  i'm going to have to uninstall and find another AV until this gets resolved i guess.

no antispyware :  home premium x64 SP1 : diagnostics finds nothing

i'm at a loss here  and guess i better load something else for the interim

Hi
You do not need to change any services if you don’t have a windows ADMIN password set. The updating issue is a simple permissions issue which is caused when an admin password is set.  All i can suggest is that you reinstall CIS to fix the above stated issue which is caused when you have asked a service to authenticate using a system password which is not set. If you have the same issue once you reinstall and a WINDOWS ADMIN ACCOUNT PASSWORD SET PLEASE FOLLOW MY PREVIOUS POST for functional workaround.
