I have both Hotspot Shield and TrustConnect installed on a new Vista laptop.

As this came with Norton for 3 months I am still using that, hoping for newer versions of CPF3 and maybe CAVS3 before it runs out.

I ran Shields up tests with both connected seperately.

With TrustConnect connected the Shieldsup tests showed my normal IP address and all ports stealthed and no ping reply, so the same as without it.

With Hotspot Shield their assigned IP was shown, just the HTTPS port was open and the pings replied.

Maybe someone can explain in simple terms what this all means please?

I'm not sure what you're seeing as GRC's scan, scans Comodo's IP here.

sounds weird coz i believe CTC must handle IP add.

as for my limited knowledge in dis field,if u connect thru router, ports and ping test should b da same(?!)

Hi Cat, yes the reverse dns part is what I get with Hotspot Shield.

Comodo says it is connected but I get the usual IP info so I thought it must not be working.   What you say seems to confirm that.

Gordon I was getting the same as you until I checked my log in.  I found that it needed all small letters for the user name whereas I had some Caps.   When I changed that it appeared to connect correctly and turned green.

Aladinonl I did both with an ADSL modem.

My ISP software (wanadoo france) would not install on vista but I found a download for the modem and managed to get it to connect via the control panel.

To be clear, I got that using CTC.

Usual IP info? Comodo's or your assigned IP from your provider?
The IP shown in my screenshot is Comodo's.

Hi cat,

I am trying again now.

Tray icon shows: Connected to Trust Connect  assigned IP 10.200.1.74

Shields up shows:

Your Internet connection's IP address is uniquely associated with the following "machine name":

AMontpellier---------------177.w86-219.abo.wanadoo.fr

That's weird.
You might try clearing out any cookies from GRC and disabling javascript..
I can't hit it to test any further right now, the VPN server is giving me a "time to live exceeded in transit".
ICMP TTL is set to 1?

I'm using Firefox and I do not keep GRC cookies.   Disabled Java script but still the same result.

Disconnected TrustConnect and connected Hotspotshield (which asked for Java script to be enabled), then ran ShieldsUP again.   This time showed my ISP connection BUT after closing Firefox to remove the GRC cookies just added, I restarted Firefox and ShieldsUP shows the HotspotShield connection.

I decided to try installing TrustConnect on my desktop XP SP2.

With that one I do get the IP change and no reverse DNS.

The laptop has  vista premium and for now Norton Security with BOClean.

It still shows my WanadooISP on GRC.

I cannot understand what the difference is as TrustConnect shows green for both.

It almost sounds like a Vista/Shieldsup issue, have you asked Steve or posted on their forum grc.shieldsup at NNTP host news.grc.com?

Hi Cat,

I would doubt that as Hotspot Shield works OK.

I'm having the same problem as Gordon and I have tried James' suggestion for the log in but to no avail. I'm running Windows Vista 32bit with BOClean, Avant AV, and ZoneAlarm (waiting for CFP 3). Any suggestions would be a great help. I've attached the log (atleast I hope I have, I'm new at this) in the hopes that it will help.

Thanx,
Michael

waeylander,
FWIW, I've trimmed your log down to the last line that's the same as mine (apart from the HMAC Key) and put mine up for comparison.

cat,

I really am a newbie at trouble shooting things like this. I can figure out the basics and am learning more as I go along but I need more info. I really do appreciate you looking into it and trimming yours for comparison. I looked yours over compared to mine but honestly I have no idea how to use this info. If you can explain it to me great but if you don't have the time that's ok too.   Wave
