Problem with 4.23 install on Win98SE

Hey,  Microsoft itself no longer supports Win 98...

At least with Comodo/BOClean you know this little issue will be fixed before long!   Wink

Yaawn - it's boring with nothing to report
CPF running fine, CBO running fine: waiting until my (other) AV sub runs out, by which time CAVS will be sorted fully and I can stop looking at security forums!

That was pretty much the whole point of it, aside from some graphical aspects.  Yahoo for Vista users!  Be aware that Kevin has indicated on install you must "Run as Admin" (on Vista) for it to install and work properly, and must be installed under Administrator/Owner account.

I've been using BOC for the last few months with Vista, the only thing I had to do was turn off the UAC and install under run as administrator.

With the UAC turned on you will experience some BOC update issues.
I don't know if this has been fixed yet, but since I always keep the UAC turned off it doesn't matter on my part.

BOclean is periodically doing something during periods of inactivity by the user - it causes regular CPU spikes.

Yup:

Quote
BOClean performs a "recalibration" every ten seconds which examines registry and system components to ensure that nothing has changed since its last calibration cycle in order to prevent against injections into already running programs.

The CPU spikes caused by this "recalibration" feature are unacceptable for me as this causes lag in online games and other situations. Does anyone know if this "feature" can be turned off? According to the following statement
Quote
This function merely provides another layer of examination in addition to instantaneous detection of a fresh startup.
it should not weaken effectiveness of BOC that much.  Either CPU spikes go or BOC goes.

IMHO,  It shouldn't cause lags unless you're seriously short of RAM...

You can however uncheck "Monitor System continuously." in BOClean's program configuration,  in which case it will only check your system once at bootup;  don't recommend that tho....

TonyKlein,

Ever since I installed 4.23 last week (yeah, just a bit early... Wink ) it's been pulling up to 50% on those little exams, on my home machine (which is a P3/500MHz with 640MB RAM).  Lasts only a couple seconds, and hasn't been a big issue.  However, I can see with a game that could cause some serious interference at a crucial moment!  Haven't seen it do this kind of spike on work machine (which is PM/1.6GHz, 512MB RAM).  Perhaps processor/bus speed plays a role...

Still, do these spikes really cause a noticeable problem?  Note that I'm not a gamer myself so that's something for others to test...

Well, I'm not a gamer either, but I've known some who are, and seen such here in the forums.  Most games (especially online) are very sensitive to any lag, and inability of the user to respond to a given scenario can result in the user experiencing negative repercussions from the game (ie, getting shot, etc).

A 50% CPU spike could certainly cause that.  For a gamer, that's no good.

Did it bother you during the climax of the Mac-Man game when you were about to gobble up them gems?

The only time I noticed high cpu usage with BOC is during its startup, when it's loading or scanning its database (I'm not sure what).  Of course, this can only be seen if you enable the option to see the status message.

Given that there is a "Feedback" thread here:  http://forums.comodo.com/index.php/topic,8145.0.html this thread will be closed b4 Soya makes me throw a fish at him.  Wink

PS: Actually, I was more into car-racing games (starting with Turbo, then Pole Position - oh my, am I dating myself?).  Of course, Asteroid was cool, too.
