Heh. Nope ... it's an actual 32 or 64 bit driver (depending on whether your toy is a 32 or 64 bitter) and for those who *really* know their coding (amazed COMODO's own antivirus folks too) the driver installs without a peep, does NOT have an INF or CAT file (supposedly required) and is deep down there in "DRM land." If you have SYSINTERNALS, look for BOCDRIVE.SYS ... isn't even in the required system folder. You'll find it in the CBOC423 folder with everything else. I figured if ZLOB and many of the same old, same old can get into Vista then we should be able to as well. So I did.

Microsoft lied.  Smiley

Hate to do this but may have found a small glitch with CBC & Vista [besides vista  Wink]

when trying to do a manual update using the button on GUI I'm getting this error message,

"Cant find BOC4UPD.exe to perform autoupdate" [ then goes on about letting it through the firewall]

I've let it through the firewall, and if I try by double clicking the BOC4UPD.exe itself it goes through
without a problem. It really is a small thing as it's easy enough to make a shortcut to BOC4UPD.exe
or just leave it to do auto updates which I normally would, just really playing around when I
discovered this.

What a pleasant surprise  Smiley I'm glad I have been checking the BOClean boards everyday. I'm running it with Avast Home, a trial of A-squared and CPF at the moment. Everything went smoothly with the install. It's really cool being one of the first to try the new version. I have heard so many good things at Wilders about BOClean that I just had to follow the story. I'll keep this a secret for now.  Wink  Keep up the great work.

My apologies for BOClean getting released without the proper information and support in place prior - we never did things this way.   Sad

Problem might be the lack of instructions when people download it - posted the notes I had sent along with the "ok guys, let's get this tested" email the other day ... and it's a critical one for Vista. When you click that "check for update" in BOClean, all it does is run the BOC4UPD program just like you're doing manually ... but Vista won't allow a program to call a "child process" that wants to use the internet. Microsoft told us that all we needed to do was "sign the code and it will work." Microsoft lied.  Sad

So the "release notes" which nobody apparently had, which I put up on page 12 here stated:

#2. In order to properly install the COMODO BOClean 4.23 onto a Vista machine, you *MUST* right click on the downloaded setup programme and select "Run as administrator" to install it properly. For XP and earlier, being administrator/owner is sufficient. A reminder screen will appear when started to warn that it must be installed under the administrator/owner account but people don't read what's right in front of their face. It's NECESSARY to ensure that the kernel driver is properly loaded that the installation be done by administrator and under VISTA, it must be done under "Run AS" ...

So in order to get Vista to honor the "child process" it had to be installed with a right click instead of the normal "clicky-clicky" so as to assign the proper admin rights to call a child process to BOC423 itself. This is a Vista-only thing. So I s'pose first question was did you install it the way you'd install most programs or did you actually right-click the download and then "Run AS" to get it installed? BOClean doesn't need admin rights for the main program but Vista won't set it in there properly without it being installed as admin. I know saying "works fine here" don't cut it, but give that a shot and see what happens ... you'll need to uninstall it and then reinstall it for it to "take" properly if you didn't "Run as" when it first went in ...

Nah ... go ahead and tell folks ... it's all over Wilders and all the other places ... so much for an "official launch."

yep did Run As Admin, it's no big deal as I say it works double clicking the updater exe

but will give it another go

OK .. update.   uninstalled it rebooted, installed Run As, still the same.

as long as it's auto updating, which it is, and I can do manuals via the exe I'm happy.

 have a CUB  Cheers

Kevin/Melih: for we existing BOClean users on XP, 4.23 is essentially just 4.22 rebranded as Comodo, right?  I don't like to update programs for a couple of days after release, to allow time for more informed users than me to report any bugs.

Correct ... aside from the licensing wrapper around it, moving the autoupdate into BOClean itself to satisfy Vista and new graphics, it's otherwise the same as 4.22 ... almost no "internal" changes at all. But if folks are seeing oddities, they'll get fixed for what I had intended as the "final" ... anyone who's a bit gunshy might want to hold off a few days until we figure out why a couple of people have had oddities that never showed up in any of my own testing ...
