The problem with Gameguard is that it's a nasty, intrusive piece of software that behaves more like a rootkit than anything else. It installs a whole host of dlls, virtual device drivers and tries it's hardest to hide itself from the system. Even uninstalling a game, with which Gameguard is part, fails to remove some of the more insidious files it installs.

I don't, as yet, know the answer to the original question but I'll install a gameguard on a test box and see if I can get it working.

By the way, CIS is not the only security product that has 'issues' with gameguard. A 30 second google will prove that.

This might partially be a problem of Vista too, since Vista/W7 blocks some of the functions of gameguard. Later verions of gameguard should fix this (currently Cabal uses 1340)

I agree with that about Vista/W7. I think I will urge the publishers to get onto the authors of the game about updating to the newer game guard (yeah like as if they will, but its all I can do :p). Kawaii has just posted as I wrote this XD.

The problem still persists here too with the Comodo update I got today (4 July, 3.10.102194.530). I'd rather keep Comodo on this Notebook, valuing its protection over a silly game, but if there were a way to disable it completely on a boot so that Game Gurad worked, I'd use it as a work around. My attempt at turning it all off using msconfig failed (process + cfp.exe), so I guess I missed something.

(OT) Judging by the number of in-game currency sellers able to spam the chat in it using what looks like bots, I think the protection does little to their game other than to put amateurs off hacking it.

Perhaps this 3.10 update that Kawaii has is a fail because gg is still looking for the old version of Comodo.

I know that gameguard is a rather aggressive piece of software. And i could understand that perhaps it conflicted with D+, so i turned D+ off. I could live with that, but now for some reason it doesn't even work with just the basic firewall? Even on "internet security" settings it doesn't work. What has changed in 3.10 that now the firewall causes problems?

Anyway, thanks for the reply.

Interesting link here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gameguard

Googling around a bit also seems to suggest that Live Messenger may be on the block list...

Ok, that could perhaps explain something.
However, still when gameguard fires and D+ is enabled all process names (in task manager) are gone (see attached screenshot somewhere) And in this 3.10 version not a single program will start up, even with D+ completly disabled.

UPDATE:
i did a clean install of 3.10 and that seems to have helped a little. Now with D+ the user names disappear again, and i can't start other programs. But with D+ disabled it all works again. So i will keep using cis with D+ disabled.

The same problem.
Bought new box, installed Win XP Pro SP3, Comodo latest version and was trying to run another GameGuard based game - Lineage2.
If GG is running no application could be run. WLM fails to run at all.
Some Media players are loading but they fail to play any media file cause they cant open it.

So, I can only use applications that were in memory before GG was run.
I got used to Comodo Firewall that i was using from 2.xx version.
Btw, there were no problems with 2.xx versions of firewall but i doubt it's safe to use application that is so old already.

Is there any solution found on this problem?

As it stands at the moment, unless disabling D+ completely works for you, then I think you'll have to wait for GG to release an update that kelps.

You've probably seen the Re: Latest update ruined functionality of some MMORPG games post egemen made

I hate to bring this up again but GG games aren't working with Comodo 3.10 and WolfTeam. But from the sounds of the posts I'm reading on here, I might want to get GG right off my system right away.

EDIT: and I have Defense + Completely disabled in my Comodo too.

Today I'm ignoring the online game that have GameGuard or other Antihacking software from the Korean.
It's isn't necessary for user It's safety with the online game provider only,
This stupid game apps always have a problem and a support site of them didn't reply any problem report.

Some Korean security provider think they're most safest and No.1 in security,
However a support for international user is very poor.

Agreed I'm boycotting any game that I find uses GameGuard. Punkbuster is a much much better alternative anyway.

Wow thats for the link. That almost makes me want to format my computer to remove any trace of GG. I do like the one post about many large reputible gaming companies are using GG. I haven't seen it in any Valve, EA, Infinity Ward or Activision Blizzard games and those are about the biggest game companies out there. Difference between them and the ones that use GG is they know better not to put in GG. I don't think Left 4 Dead would be as popular with GG in it.

Gameguard needs to fix it so their software is not detected as malicious. The solutions used by Blizzard and Valve/Steam serve the same kind of purpose without all the problems.
