I keep seeing that prior versions are no longer supported, but everything was working FINE for me up to January 05 2010.

Now I cannot upgrade CIS (I thought I had, and rebooted as requested and ended up still at 3.8 ) it claims there is an internet error and of course I still can't update the antivirus protocols.

This is actually as bad as Comodo putting out a faulty virus update last year causing the software to stall and crash one's computer. Two foul ups like this in under 6 months is supposed to be encouraging? Cause it's not. It just makes me think -nothing- built by Americans is meant to last.

And I keep hearing the newest AVG is no longer bloatware.

WHY THE HECK is there no sticky post about this problem? That's what sticky posts are for! A consumer shouldn't have to try and figure out how things might be phrased and hope search hits on an explanation post!

What exactly does the updater message tell?

AV updates for 3.8 have been suspended for quite a while now.

Thanks, Eric, the renaming of the downloaded file fixed the problems my wife's laptop was having.  Now updated and running version 3700.

So...why did this hit my wife's laptop and not my desktop?  Both on the same network, both running XP home, same version of AV....

I am on a very slow dial-up connection (1.9 kb) and am looking at a 12-15 hour download time for the Base End User file.    I WILL be loosing my connection during this download at some point, so is there any way that I can pick up where I have left off during this download?   I do not want to lose all the gains that I have towards downloading due to a failed internet connection.

Thanks,

Follow Where can i download the latest full AV database? and download the bases.cav from the provided url. That link supports resuming; so you can use download manager. Unfortunately AV updater does not support resuming.

Thank you, the link worked for me to continue my download after my internet connection predictably failed.

I lost my internet connection again, but this time when I went back to the link to restart the download, I started back at 0% instead of my previous 62%.

What went wrong and can I expect this loss of my gains in downloading again when I have to restart the same download tomorrow?

Are you using a download manager? If not please use one.

I hope using a download manager will prevent you from having to start from scratch again.

Hi nodecaf,

A Download Manager will let you resume downloads after broken connections etc.
Get one here, Fresh Download.

Thank you Bad Frogger for the link to a download manager.  I will download the download manager tomorrow and then resume my attempt at downloading the original file.
