If anything goes wrong CTM will take me back... I guess the only thing I have to worry about is privacy, that's why TF has an outbound network rule and it would also detect if an application tried to manipulate another trusteed application to gain internet access.  Maybe when CIS 4 comes out I'll have another look. Haven't used CIS for sometime now.

Actually for a highly skilled user your combination is a solid one.Perhaps I'd just add Sandboxie to it for bullet-proofing.

Well.. I sort of look at sandboxie\CTM somewhat have the same objective.. and the end result is the same. I look at it kind of like a virtual system while using CTM.

But one problem with virtual machines that they don't cover is privacy.. Hopefully threat fire + outbound custom rule should be able to detect any network connection or processes manipulation if that ever occurs.

Really though... In the time I was using CIS I never ever came across something malicious (Unless I was testing in a VM) I think most of us on these forums would be fine with Clam AV. lol

Duh Nothing? I know it's a lot less interesting for hackers to target Linux but it's not that there is nothing out there targeting it....  Huh

since my dad has started using the pc *novice* kaspersky Internet security 2010
That's harsh, man...though surely not as harsh as this. For my dad (his main PC) it's
  • Avast! 4 Home
  • MBAM free (barely touched),
  • Spywareblaster (barely touched),
  • Firefox w/ Adblock Plus + WOT (no NoScript),
  • IE8 (likely unprotected,) untouched,
  • Windows/no firewall (I find these two are very similar Cheesy).

He doesn't surf too much on it so I guess it's justified... [not]... For another PC of his it's the same setup plus CFP with D+ on but he hardly touches that PC so D+/FW alerts don't get the chance to annoy him.

Sounds like your dad doesn't use a computer much.  Tongue

Except for capturing and editing video by the truck-load he doesn't do much else on that computer...so having protection software crowd his CPU, RAM, HDD and LAN connection is unwarranted. Thinking

It's still visible on LAN nearly 24/7 though.

P.S.: I've been waiting for you to change your name back. Whew.
