.

All software’s were tested using full capabilities settings, including heuristic behavior and riskware defense. WE DON’T cult any software and WE DON’T receive funds in order to rate a product “high”. Our test is based on impartiality and equal conditions to every application tested.

We used a malware sample package containing 564.820 items, including almost all of the malware categories such as:Worms, Trojans, Backdoors, Macro Viruses, Dos Viruses, Boot Viruses, Polymorphic Viruses, Metamorphic viruses, Constructor Tools, Riskware, Flooders, Nukers, Sniffers, Spoofers, Droopers, Spam Tools, Adware, Rootkits, Malicious Scripts, Hack Tools, Exploits and other types of malware.

Antivir Classic does not include Adware/Spyware Detection (ADSPY/*). If the test has 20%-30% of spyware and adware the results are not a surprise.

No matter what the tests say, I don't think avast is good. It even failed to detect an old exploit when their forum was hacked yesterday!

Avast 4.7 and Avast 4.8 Beta are two great anti viruses i've stayed clean the first 2 years i used Avast 4.7 Home Edition. I'm currently using Avast 4.8 and it too is a GREAT anti virus. Thumb Up

Do you have any proof such as an article or anything about Avast forum getting "hacked"?

Edit: It's also been said DOZENS of times that we can not trust only anti virus "tests"

Doesn't the free version of Avira uses the same database as the premium version, except that the free one doesn't include spyware and adware detections?
Just because an AV scores good in tests, doesn't mean it'll protect you against a real infection! And like Goose said, tests might not be too reliable.

Ragwig,
   Antivir Free and Premium Versions.

They Both have the same signature database though the free version doesn't detect Spyware.

The Premium version includes Email Antivirus module whereas the fee version does not.

The Premium version allows you to adjust the period of time where updates are done, the free version is just every 24 hours. Even on the Premium version, I wished that it had a setting just for Automatic Updates instead of deciding when to check for virus updates.

The free version update throws a huge popup window on your screen though this can be stopped with a HIPS.

I edited my Avira Premium updater to update every 2 hours in the back round. Works like a charm to keep up with there site.

OK to make things clear to everybody, there seems to have been a problem with the copy of AntiVir Personal Edition Classic which I've used in the test. I have just analyzed the copy of the virtual machine on which the test was done, there was a problem while installing updates, for some reason.......

These results aren't accurate.  Avira free and premium use the same antivirus engine, as confirmed by the admin of av-comparatives, he also stated they have the same virus protection.  Secondly, Zone Alarm should have gotten the same score (or closer) to kaspersky, because Zone Alarm uses the kaspersky engine.

Do not trust these results.

I trust because Avira Premium has AS, but AVIRA free hasn't. ZA use Kaspersky engine of KAV 6, no KAV 7.
AVG free and AVG premium is the same(in v7, i don't know v8).
