Super Antispyware, definatly has good detection.  I still use spybot, because really I know my machine is clean, its more of a checkup then a spyware scan.  If spybot is clean then i've been doing my job, if spybot detects one thing, I'll scan with my better stuff.

Understandable & sounds quite reasonable. Smiley

I like the new scanning engine in spybot, which 1.6 is now out of beta.  However it isn't that much faster. Sad

I never expected to find negative opinions about Spybot here...
I've always used it on any computer I'm cleaning for people, and I just learned of MBAM. The first time I used MBAM on my machine (which has always been clean...) it detected 3 false positives, and I can't say I really care for SAS. What's the point in having SAS autorun with the PC when the free version doesn't do anything but on-demand scanning ...?

Anyway, while Spybot S&D may not find everything, it's still a really useful tool in my opinion and I'll always continue to use it until it isn't updated anymore Tongue

2-3 years ago, I was using Spybot 1.3-1.4 & Ad-ware 1.05-.1.06.

Ad-aware versions 1.05-1.06 years ago, the download size was 2MB's. Now the 2008 version is 18MB. Spybot 1.6 now is 12MB When it was 4MB back then (2-3 yrs ago).

These products were very good... However, SUPERAntispyware is better then both products for a # of reasons:
-No back ground running services (Ad-ware). and the GUI isn't bloated.
-Detection rate of SAS is superior to both Spybot & Ad-aware.
-SAS is simple, and light weight- it has a pro version which you purchase for life and uses 450kb real time!

Conlusion: Spybot & Ad-aware are past there prime. SUPERAntispyware & MalwareBytes continue to improve & impress, No I don't care about the download size but my whole my point it look what the extra MB was spent on in Ad-aware? New GUI & a few new features, with a back-ground service! Comodo Firewall used Extra MB's too but in real time it's actually 3 times lighter then v2! Anyway, Don't like Spybot which is my main point. People will have various opinions, this is mine.

Josh

I stopped using Ad-Aware once it got the realtime service (which, Ad-Aware WILL NOT run unless is on) and yes, I HATE programs that have a bloated GUI.

I somewhat wish Comodo's GUI wasn't as .. "image heavy" either, but I can't do anything about that ... and I need a good firewall after someone made me paranoid. (Basically, they claimed they could hack through my router)

My qualm with SAS is that it makes itself start on boot as soon as you install it, without asking the user FIRST! If I didn't have StartupMonitor, I would have had no clue. I HATE programs that do that. What point is there in SAS starting on boot, when it has no realtime monitor? I can understand autostart if it's the pro version, but if it's just the free version... why slow down the PC's boot time by having a useless program autostart? So I will start using SAS more for my scans, but I just think the developers should fix the above problems.

The reason why they put it on start up by default is because people may want to access it alot more quicker for updates and scanning. I don't like SAS on start up either, But off course you can disable it. MSN Messenger 8 also starts on startup first time running, You need to go to tools, etc to disable it.

Anyway we are getting  Off-Topic! So let's keep the discussion on Spybot.

Josh

Tons of programs use auto start. Been that way for well over 10 years now. If you don't like the feature then turn it off in options.
