Ok here the requested test Vet.  The virus gets deleted as soon as I press the button yet it said it fails. And if I do it again it says it pass. Weird. Still if the program somehow sees a miliseconds difference I don't care much about it.

Here's the other one

Didn't test the ping thing since this isn't a firewall.

As for the scanning of archives

In anyrate like Comodus said. The AV still uncompress the file to be able to scan it. And still you won't get any damage from unzipping a zipfile or rar even if it does contain a virus.

So you dont have a firewall? This is simple and the test is not buggy. Just uninstall Rising and install Avast and you will see the test pass. Better yet try any other virus scan. I have done this test with 5 different av's and only Rising fails.

I have Outpost firewall. But we were talking about rising right ?  The test is a beta.  Why then I have to restart to test again?  Still I don't care much about it. The eicar gets deleted as soon as I push the button so I don't think that's failing. Why don't you try Pc security test ? Here I score 100% because Rising doesn't let the test put any file in system32. Of course I know Comodo Defense+ pass this test. But Avast, Avira, and others doesn't. Still Vet you're not going to change the way I think. You like your Nod32. I like Rising. To a point, like I said before is a matter of opinion as well.

Your basing everything on Rising's HIPS but not Rising's av capability. You need to start testing Rising as an av and not HIPS. Does Rising pass the HIPS part of the test? If the eicar file is created then Rising fails.

I installed it on my dad's computer and I think that's the best test there is. Because he downloads programs regardless of where he gets them from, or verifying if they're trusted. So far I haven't had problems about his pc getting infected again or his USB wich was the most annoying problem. We'll see how Rising holds against him  Smiley
About the SS test. The file needs to be created so the AV can scan it and detect. Therefor no matter wich AV is. The file's indeed created. This beta program just expects it to delete it some miliseconds earlier I guess. And yes Rising passed the hips part of the test.

Jeims my dear. Its not the SS test being dumb. The eicar test file is a basic av test that ANY anti virus should pass. I have tested NOD32,Avira,Avast and KAV. They all pass. Rising fails. Rising also fails when you go to the eicar test site. It lets you downlioad the files. With any other anti virus the second I click on the tests it is caught.

I thought Antiviruses were made to prevent real attacks  Roll Eyes. Grin

I'm surprised a antivirus still hasn't got it in it's database  Shocked. I thought it was known enough, or they just don't care as it's a fake ?

The webscanner is a bonus, not a must. I don't like it, as it 'can' slowdown the internet...

Avast,Avira and NOD32's web scanner doesn't slow down the internet. KAV slowed it down though. Rising doesn't have a web shield and either does Vipre.

This test depends on how much importance you give to it.
Rising detects it and deletes it, that's all I care about. I don't care if this beta software says it fails. And I don't care about the webshield either because it still detects the file before executing, wich is the goal. It detects it while it's still in the temp and not executed yet.  So there's no need for the repetition. I mean you already said why you don't like it. Fine. Just let other users be.  And don't call me dear, I'm not your wife  Roll Eyes

Hi Guys, I'm back from from 3 day camping stint (on vacation) so what's the discussion about here? Defense & protection to avoid infection? I honestly think Vette that Rising whether its' through its' HIPS or regular AV scan it can pretty well detect & eradicate anything thrown at it as well as Nod32 or Avast, the discussion is about the quality of protection Rising has to offer overall regardless of how it arrives at providing it. Scenario Vette, somebody that didn't activate Comodos' D+ (like you, me & Jeims haven't done) loaded a decent AV with no HIPS, hasn't got HIPS anywhere else & isn't near way as computer savvy as we are is more than likely bound to get INFECTED on a scrupulous download or an unaverted link click, so what does this thread on Rising or any other half decent program amount to? Defense & protection before and above anything else. How it's achieved at what speed doesn't really matter as long as it's done & especially successful in the end in protecting the user, right guys? If Rising felt a need to offer several extras' including its' HIPS it's not necessarily by fault of offering a under par AV but rather by offering the best protection they felt they could muster in a full fledged AV package. Vette drop the Web Shield trip we already know it's not a necessity as you remarked at the beginning of this thread as long as the AV does its' thing whether on the spot or later, it's becoming tedious on your behalf and this in all sincerity.
I'm Comodo all the way and anxiously awaiting CIS, but in the meantime freeware I really haven't found a better combo than Comodos' Firewall, Rising Free AV & Sandboxie

Cheers Guys Cheers
BTW, still on vacation!

Xman Kewl Thumb Up

I gave this Anti-virus a spin a few months ago and found it pretty good.  I think they must of gotten the idea from Comodo which uses a basic hips with CAV2.  They are the only Anti-virus softwares that I know of that have a hips feature with the program.  The program runs light and seems good but I switched to Avast Home.  Since I use CFP with D+, I didn't need the hips portion as its covered in the firewall.
