TF is more effective for 95% of people.

Of course because it dosn't require user intervention, only when it detects a file with malicious behavior.

Bingo!

But of course it doesn't apply to the people here right? We are all computer security gurus right?  Angel

A firewall with HIPS and an Antivirus is NOT layered.

Why don't you think this is layered?

Or by layered do you think it means having 2 antiviruses? lol...

True info I was wrong. Threatfire is more of a behavior blocker but D+ is more powerful.

I personally wouldn't comment on products I haven't used before. But that's  just me.

I used TF to test it out.  Honestly I think it is quite useless if you have an antivirus, and antispyware.

Well honestly i think most security software are quite useless if you know what you are doing.

Except for an antivirus, it really makes life easier.

[ at ] luketan or infosec,
i don't think using Defense+ is difficult. it has training mode & clean PC mode.
and, what about their ability to catch malware/malicious attack? are you guys, how are they compared to each other?

Oh D+ is very powerful.  However most users won't like the interaction needed, hence TF is a more probable choice for people that want quieter protection.

OK  Cheers thx  Cheers
so beside the "comfort" issue, Defense+ is better than Threatfire.  110 Percent

*Technically TF has the potential to catch things that Defense+ doesn't because of it's ability to see the whole process in context...
uh huh? and uh, what's that actually?  Tongue

Wrong way of seeing things. If you don't know how to use defense+ properly, using  it can be actually worse than using nothing at all.

The tricky part of using hips like defense+ is, how do you know if you are using it correctly?

Because you don't get infected? But it is extremely unlikely for most careful and fairly knowledgeable users to be infected in the first place anyway.

Yes, TF have magic wand.
If some of process behavior does not match by TF criteria of detecting, TF will fail to catch malware or some part of malware will be able to pass by TF, that is not case with CFP...
