Tried MSE yesterday and it said the scan would take a couple of minutes (a full scan that is). Great, I thought Grin. Well, 1h 30m later it had finished Roll Eyes. I know I haven't got the quickest tablet out there (1.2GHz, 1GB) but I could have re-installed Windows, plus applications and configured quicker than that Cheesy. It was soon removed from my system.

I can't understand all this chitchat. You should be discussing how good it is or not at preventing.
Who cares about the scans, there's MBAM and others for that. I never did one single scan with the resident AV.
I read one user saying he tried MSE on a old CPU...what the hell for? What's the point of that?
And another user saying his machine is out of date...buy a new one!

uff...

Not everyone can afford to go out and buy a new computer just to make a free AV product work acceptably. Even those who could afford it would be highly unlikely to do so either, they would just try a different product like AVG,Avira,Avast, or Comodo. All of those have very modest system requirements compared to MSE's. I am a fan of Microsoft in most things, but this product seems to need work. I was thinking of trying it on the other machine here but now I think I'll pass. The scan time is outrageous. I run my MBAM and SAS scans with Comodo still enabled, thus getting two scans at once, and it's still much faster on my single core machine (my only machine) than what has been presented for MSE.

Not just for that.

On my Win7 64-bit, it is using about 60 MBs of memory according to task manager.

MSE doesn't use the OneCare engine.  It uses the Forefront engine which is coming out in MS's enterprise security suite Microsoft Forefront.

60 mb is a lot for just an AV . Especially when CIS uses less than 10 on this machine for the entire suite.
