I've found that to be the case with all spyware protection software: Ewido, Adaware, AVG, CounterSpy, SpyDoctor, Webroot's stuff... all they have ever found for me was a bunch of cookies, and I go EVERYWHERE.  Thumb Down

I kinda like ThreatFire - that catches stuff pro-actively at least... Otherwise:

- Ewido/AVG - abandoned (long live AVG 8.0 bloatware)  Sad
- AdAware - plain useless, never helped me on infected machines for ages, I always try it out of the habit to watch it fail over and over again.  Thumb Down Thumb Down
- Spy Sweeper... eh, I'd prefer SAS any time
- CounterSpy - ugh, updates never worked for me -> unusable  Thumb Down

All paid anti spywares are bloated and junk. Argue with me all you want but I tried them. Spy Sweeper slows your pc to a crawl. Spyware Doctor slows your boot up and overall pc performance down. Counter Spy slows your pc down and updates take forever.

Excuse me but no. SAS Free and SAS Pro have the same detection rate and same memory usage. The pro only brings real time protection into play. I mentioned 3 and SAS pro want one of them.  SAS and MBAM are free to use. Spy Sweeper, Counterspy and Spyware Doctor are not free and most of them scan for free but to get rid of threats you need to pay. Googles free version of SD isnt the same as SD itself.

The way I see it:

We used Spybot & Ad-aware 2-5 years ago. We now use better technology & techniques (SUPERAntispyware, etc). SAS Takes down Spybot & Ad-aware together. And that is a "proven" fact, I don't have an evidence though to back that statement up but I might do my own internal malware testing to compare.

SAS Free or Pro is good. I advise to all my friends & family.

Cheers,
Josh

I stopped using any kind of spyware product over a year ago.
Maybe good for people who use IE for everything.

That's the single best way to prevent spyware,NOT using IE!  Wink

I use BOclean, SUPER Antispyware as a on-demand, Windows Defender , and Spyware Blaster.

All of Ad-Aware versions are slow take a lot of resources and the overall detection rate isn't sufficient, imo.

Spyware Terminator uses a lot of resources and slow scanning, and you really don't need it if you use BOclean.

SpyBot lost its purpose long ago. I don't think anyone needs this either.. I would rather have BOclean, and Spyware Blaster because they are both more effective and BOclean uses a lot less memory than Spybot's guard. and Spyware Blaster helps protect you also and uses no resources at all.

EDIT: Oh yeah I forgot I also use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, which is a awesome program. You have 2 versions the free and the 20 dollar one which basically gives you real time protection, and schedule scanning.

I got Spyware Doctor from a friend, and I really like it.  Before I installed it I heard people say it sometimes slowed down your computer.  So I tested my start-up times before and after, not much difference.

Also, newbie like I am, I download some "bad" stuff and ran it.  Spyware Doctor caught it and killed it and quarantined it.  And I know the stuff I downloaded was bad, because it changed my desktop background into a ad.   Angry  But changed it back to what it was before.
