Spyware Doctor definately causes a slowdown on the system and is quite intrusive.
The 2 AV approach (1 on access,1 on demand) is the way to go.It offers the nearest thing to 100% protection as far as scanners go.Personally I use a combination of Avira and Bitdefender.

I own a computer shop by profession and have a degree in computer programming so I know how to make it work. These setup is not recommended for beginner pc users.
You have edit the registry & the drivers in order to make it work & you have to understand basic programing so do not follow my setup unless you really know how to make it work.
But I could give you a hint:
Remember: My Rules
Your antivirus & Antispyware that are on demand must have their services disabled on default to avoid confict & autorun disabled..
One antivirus on real time protection only, Ex. , I have kaspersky on realtime & want to switch to nod32, Disable kaspersky realtime protection, disable kaspersky drvier, enable nod32 drivers, Switch on nod32 realtime protection.
One antispyware in realtime protection only, Ex., I have A-sqaured anti-mallware on realtime & want to switch to counterspy, Disable A-squared realtime protection, disable A-squared driver, enable counterspy drivers, Switch on counterspy realtime protection.
One firewall in realtime only, If you have Comodo, You should turn off windows firewall.
Effects could be disastrous if you enable two AV or two AS in realtime!!!!!

I don't suppose you've got a power supply for a Samsung A10 laptop knocking round that place ?
Back on topic, the more security you have running the more it requires gentle tweaking in order to avoid any issues.Back in my paranoid days I spent maaaany hours of a weekend fiddling with my setup, but then I discovered the joys of beer

Ultragunner?
I don't think you should advertize things in such an obvious manner...
Well, just a thought.
Of course, everyone here has his/her(?) own SW favourites.
I simply don't like all those multicoloured pics in your postings, honestly.
Still, I think andyman's choice is a rather fine one.
Avira free and BitDefender free make up for a fine couple.
Since their combination won't ever make any of your "Steps" necessary.
Oh, and yes (nothing against THAT), you obviously DO "own a computer shop by profession".
It is more than obvious. Sad to say so. (Nothing against YOU)
Cheers.

And remember, dear friend:
People won't ever really be FREE.
That's not fine, even if true. Not agreed?
Software at least CAN be free, and some of it is, indeed.
That's fine (for me, this is), even if also true
Not agreed?
Believe it or sell it.
Cheers

look, my friend, I am not advertising these products, I just thought it would be cool. By the way, I was only suggesting if you want to follow my setup, You are all entitled to your own setup & I am also entitled to my own setup, pls kindly respect that. If all of you want to use free products, hey it is your computer, your choice, not my computer. All of us have the right to choose free or paid? , so do you my friend.

Well said, my friend.
But even your last answer makes me sincerely wish to be one of those colour blind people.
Ouch.
If I had a shop, I would rather advertize for it's products with just a FREE BONUS version of COMODO PF 3.0, and if people like that prog, they will, maybe, again, rely on you, this time with money.
But, as I already stated in another post, you should NEVER advertize with detection rates relying on non-trusted sites, or, let's say, maybe NOT YET (?) trusted sites.
Because that's the worst form of advertizing possible, and a potential risk for any user who deems himself rather non-expert.
Kaspersky is a good, reliable prog. Agreed. Agreed?
It's easy to make a website. Agreed. Agreed?
I think your answer would be YES.
Now that it's easy to combine both statements ONE REALLY COULD (WOULD HE?) make an advertizing website telling you Kaspersky is fine. Avira is bad. Buy Kaspersky.
Would one add some colour to advertize that.
Of course?
Don't know. Maybe on a forum. Because forums are frequently visited.
Know what I mean?
Have a beer...

Avira is not bad, it has incredible detection rates beating Kaspersky & NOD32 & the rest, I accept that. But its realtime protection & self defense like I said is mediocre. I use AVIRA PREMIUM myself as on demand scanner. Because of the fact it uses three detection methods compared to the rest just two. unique to AVIRA =detection of suspicious cryptor / packer (detecting yet unknown malware by the method of informing the user about the unknown / rare / suspicious packer / cryptor or about the fact of multiple packing / crypting.
By the way, If COMODO was a paid product, it would be my honor & my pleasure to sell it. It is indeed the KING of firewalls. Guess when your final version 3 is coming out, the other vendors have some catching up to do.!!!!!

I see you're still advertising WebRoot SpySweeper here...?
And PC Tools?
Spyware Doctor is a heavy system intruder.
SpySweeper is not what it was LONG AGO (it once was great, I confess)
Trying to sell them? No problem, it's ok, do it in God's name.
Please, not here at the holy shrines.
I understand your intentions. Everyone here needs to earn his money.
But ---- again, please ----
No advertising here.
I've already said something against SAS here, I remember.
Even if it's free.
It's not that SAS is bad.
It just did never find anything on my PC's.
That were otherwise only "infected" by free programs.
I honestly believe, there's no need anymore for ANY of them paid programs out there.
And, no, I am not a communist.
Have a beer with me, though?
